I have this Washer, bought in 1986 and still in service as of December 8 2025. Only failed once, had to replace the timer 20 years or so ago.
However, today Dec 8 2025 it appears that the belt (original) may have become faulty. I am willing to replace the belt 95402 which I ordered. My big question is on the Cam Position for the Spin cycle, instructions say to make sure that when replacing the belt that it is in the spin position, but no info as to what it should look like or location. It appears that when looking from the back of the machine, the left cam just under the wig wag perhaps is the spin cam and position should be forward when replacing the belt..says to rotate large pulley until in spin position? Any suggestion or input greatly appreciated, Unit has been great and I can replace it but would like to keep it going. 40 years in June of 2026
Thanks in advance...any good links would be helpful..not much on these old machines I can find.
Regards Bob
The belt is 95405, not 95402. An instruction sheet should be included with the new belt. You can find it as a .pdf at Whirlpool's service portal, ServiceMatters.com. Choose the Guests - Limited Access option.
Or directly via this link: Washer Drive Belt 95405
Move the spin cam bar forward by manually turning the belt / transmission pully until the pin in the spin shift plunger is aligned with the vertical notch between the upper and lower slots in the cam bar. Hold the plunger upwards and simultaneously continue to turn the transmission pulley until the bar is pushed fully forward. The spin cam/shift bar is the left one (at rear view through the service panel). Agitate shift/cam bar is the right one (which also shifts the pump in/out of drain mode ... drain when not agitating).
Thanks for the feedback, I did order the 95405, the post was a typo which I failed to catch.
Do you know if the cams under the wig wag unit must be in a particular position? If so, could you perhaps let me know how they may need to be positioned, I understand if you move the large pulley it will perhaps change the position of the cams. documentation does not clearly define if this is mandatory or not, cam position... Regards Bob
I think I now see with your reference to the instruction with the belt, you lift up the plunger, Move the drive pulley until the spin plunger advances to the spin position (I think this mean the slide bar will be extended outward towards the back of the cabinet, looking at it from the back..Thanks again.
