What are your dream machines yet to be found?
1968 General Electric Washer/Dryer (Gas), 1970’s-1980’s White Westinghouse Washer/Dryer (Gas)
What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
My Great grandmother and great grandaunt had a MOL White Westinghouse green Top loader machine and TOL1974 General Electric washing machine without dryers respectively. Every summer I visited, I remember the enjoyment and fascination I had washing my clothes in machines that I could watch agitate with ample amounts of water and suds. From the smell of the detergent, to the sound each machine made, and even to hanging the clothes on a clothe line, it was truly a mesmerizing experience. One I wish and hope to re-love some day.
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
Living in an apartment building my whole life, I generally used Wascomat HE washers that the local laundromat owned. When I moved out, my in-laws had given me the opportunity to use there 2006 whirlpool washer/dryer set. Besides the vintage Westinghouse and GE washers I used at my great grand aunts and grandmothers homes.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
I’ve made small efforts to perform DIY tasks, such as repairing small broken parts in or around the consoles of the machines I used. Other times with mechanical issues I utilized a specialist in Long Island, who holds an interest in all things mechanical with various types of washers and dryers. I even learned most of what I knew from reading serial numbers, to locating temperature control switches inside the consoles of machines.
