Kitchenaid and Maytag are made by Whirlpool, using similar components and charging a premium. Our Miele is still going strong after 20 years and once installed (as they are very heavy) has been excellent. It was on sale when we bought it and has been the best appliance purchase we've made.

I think it it a water softener in the which picture, it seemed to have been an optional extra, one of the reasons I did not bid was that our water is incredibly hard! Also the extra width.. Not easy to fit in..
