I think we have a winnah! The mounting stem and seal still look good, but the agitator shaft is all eaten up where the seal touches it. Hard to believe the old seal (which looked even worse than the shaft!) was holding water right up until I removed it. It looks like you can't buy the shaft...

Our 30+ year old Maytag stopped spinning, so I replaced the belts, tub bearing, and tub seal. Now it spins fine, but it leaks badly where the transmission goes into the tub bearing. I took it apart twice, checking that everything was clean, in good condition, and assembled correctly, but to no...
