My collection consists of small Sunbeam appliances. I have 2 Model 11 and 3 Model 12 Mix masters. Three of them have been completely restored by a place in Canada. The other two will go when he comes back to work. I think he has been sick. I also have four Kitchen Aid Dishwashers. KDS-15, KDS-17A, KDS-20 and KDS-21. They are all rescues and I have brought them back to life.
What are your dream machines yet to be found?
Someday Id like to have a basement (we dont have them in the South). I would like to have a collection of every model of every Kitchen Aid Dishwasher ever made before the KDS-17. My friend Todd (varicycle voice) has such a collection. I think it would be fun to play with them. I want to be like Todd when I grow up.
What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
-I am fascinated by just about any electric kitchen gadget, and have been since I was a little kid. My interest mainly focuses on Dishwashers.
My Father was a Mechanical Engineer. Years ago, he worked for General Electric in Syracuse, New York. He was one of a number of Engineers who designed small kitchen appliances. He used to bring home the rejects for me to play with, but always cut off the cord so I wouldn’t electrocute myself. Of course, I wanted nothing to do with those that did not have a cord. I was always playing with, and taking apart my Mothers real appliances.
As I got older and could reach the counter, I became fascinated and always wanted to play with our top load dishwasher. It was Youngstown kitchens brand, and I loved the window in the top and liked to watch the pattern the water made on the glass as it washed.
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
-
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
I have worked on a KDS-15, KDS-17A, KDS-20, KDS-21 and a General Electric GSD1050. The GE is a great machine but I didnt have room so it has taken a prominent spot in Todds (varicyclevoice) basement.
