    Loudest and Quietest washing machines

My neighbor had a Montogomery Wards/Norge/Magic Chef washer. It was one of them things. But whenever she would wash clothes, all I had to do was stand in my dining room and listen. THAT THING WAS SOO LOUD!!!! It just HOWLED and HOWLED. I could tell when it was agitating, when it was...

    Tub index

I loved the indexing Westinghouses!!! I, personally, do not think they were cheap machines. I believe they cleaned well, and depending on the usage, lasted long. As stated before, the indexing helped keep the clothes from becoming stagnant while the washing cycle progressed. My god mother had...

    Should I trust Affresh?

I would use the Affresh! I've had my FL for 5 1/2 years now, and I have never had an issue with the Affresh tablets. It leaves a fresh clean scent, which is refreshing afterwards. Just pop it in and set the Clean Washer with Affresh cycle, and you are good to go.

    WESTINGHOUSE

WOW!!! Westinghouse washers are my absolute favorite!!!! Brings back memories of my babysitter's washer when I was a kid. She had the straight vane agitator and so did my cousin. The indexing tub is what got me! I was sooo amazed at it that i would stand there and watch the entire cycle. I...

    Who Built These?

These were built by Maytag. Amana was one of Maytag's subsidiaries. They are practically identical to Speed Queen, except Speed Queen's were built so much better.

    Liquid vs powder laundry detergent

Keep using your Nellie's Detergent. If you simply follow the instructions, and use the proper cleaning cycle, per the owner's manual, then you will have no problems. I have had my Maytag 3000 Series set since April 2009, and I have never had an issue with mold or and residue. I use the proper...

Supreme Court Sniffs At Smelly Washers Case

I do not understand what the trouble is with front loaders! If you follow the instructions, which clearly tell you to leave the door cracked and to use the cleaning cycle once a month, then you will not have issues with odor. People use way to much fabric softner and detergent because they...

Upstairs/Downstairs - A tale of two laundry rooms!

I have the Maytag 300 Series and I do not have a problem with the washer trying to balance itself before spinning. Sometimes, when washing a load of towels, it will balance a couple of times but nothing that adds significant time. As for the odor in the washer, I use the Afresh Tablets. They...

    Norge or Westinghouse?

OMG...MY DREAM SET!!!!!! This has the straight vane agitator for sure. Westinghouse made some great washers. The dryers were ok but lacked drying power due to the small capacity. The indexing tub is what stole my heart, and it cleaned WELL!!!!! If this was near me, i would certainly purchase it.

    4/24 finds

This is the first time that I have seen a MW washer with that agitator!!! With that console, you usually get the straight vane or ramped agitator. Not sure how I feel about this one, but if it sounds like any of the other Westy's, then it is a keeper!

If you had to buy a vintage washer what brand and with what kind of agitator and whitch color

1984 Westinghouse with the straight vane agitator!!!! MY FAV!!!

Westinghouse TL washer & dryer, should I grab them??

You need to grab them ASAP!!!!! I have the best memories of this washer at my Godmother's house when I was a kid. The blue ramp agitator had amazing turn over and it was extremely quiet. That is a steal for that washer. Also, I loved the straight vane agitator. My babysitter had the other...

Why purchase a washer that lasts?

My service plane was 250 at the time with sears. They are on the expensive side. Home Depot has a 5 year service plan for $120 and a 3 year for $69 with all the things included in my earlier post. The only thing is that you have to purchase the washer and dryer from them. THey wont sell you...

Why purchase a washer that lasts?

@ Lowegian: I have the service plan from SEARS that I purchased along with the FL set. It gives you a 1 yr check up each year you have the service plan, and they come out and do a thorough inspection of both the washer and dryer. They check for error codes, leaks, etc. They check for...

Why purchase a washer that lasts?

I personally agree with your sister. In my opinion, if you get a "cheap" set, which they are not cheap, and you take care of it, then you wont have any problems with it. You can get a WP, KM, MT, etc, and use it as instructed, then chances are that you wont have any issues out of it. THe...
