1985 General Electric Furnace New in Box

No over priced controller to fail every 3-5 years The pilot light might use $10 worth of gas in the life of the furnace.

Declining quality of consumer-grade products - 2009 fridge compressor autopsy...

compressor oil viscosity Did Embraco spec such a low viscosity lubricant, or is it something the refrigerator manufacturer took upon themselves? I assume the compressor comes preloaded with oil, but maybe not.

    Frigidaire Cassette Player?

The electronics I wonder if Delco electronics supplied the radio / cassette units? I don't believe cassettes were offered in GM cars at the time yet.

    Speed Queen AWN432 cleaning quality

Going on the same amount of time with our 432 Don't like the cycles as well as our beloved 19 year old Whirlpool DD (I might have saved it, if the suspension spring mounts weren't nearly rusted through, besides the leak, timer, broken coupler and broken clutch), but I have found the spin drain...

Happy Birthday to my General Electric console TV

'82 only color Thanks! Was it one of the colors that was called "champagne"? Kind of a sad thread thinking about GE being run into the ground, and how proud I had been working for them. I always wondered how long it could go on, when we would get some of the asinine corporate info at our...

Happy Birthday to my General Electric console TV

Don't have the TV, but still have the car that it came h I bought my 1st new GE TV with my employee discount in early 1985 as well. It was a 19" mono with remote and the CRT had a cool blue look when the set was off. IIRC, Mitsubishi sets had a similar appearance to the tube around this time...

test drove '82 El Camino :)

Buick 252 V6 I was hoping I had pictures of an '83 or '84 Electra with a 4.1L V6, but I recall the hood struts not working, so I gave up before it slammed on me. Not very well equipped, but it was maroon inside, so I grabbed some pieces for my baby. It was a credit option on DeVilles over the...

Thanks It was a fun project. That is a Buick only variant, 2003-2005, that I found cool.

test drove '82 El Camino :)

Normally aspirated 3.8 rear drives were dogs. The fuel injected, large front drives (86-88) with a 3.8 actually performed quite well and got good fuel economy. The durability was poor due to the timing gear. When GM designated them as 3800, the durability was much improved and the last remnants...

test drove '82 El Camino :)

Engine noises I will assume the Chevy 229 V6 is probably rough on timing chains like Buick 231 that was also available as the standard engine for B and G bodies with Cali emissions from '80 to '84. The Chevy 229 V6 was an odd-even fire, so it had plenty of roughness. Never really heard of ones...

Vintage Amana Stove and microwave combo

Original MSRP It had to be expensive, $1500, $1750? Would be shocking in 2019 dollars.
