    Christfr, thanks for the quick reply. Is there a manual you'd recommend (or on-line diagrams)if I wanted to tackle this? I'd rather not start it unless I have some idea what I'm up against. (I think I can, I think I can)

    My Father in Law wanted me to help him work on his old (30+ year) Maytag A207. So here I am on Christmas day working on this old beast. I took the front cover off, no prob. But he says "wait, look under the washer", so we tilt it up, and the floor (he has it on carpet) is covered in oily greasy...
