What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
Standing on a stool watching the washer when I was a little boy. Helping my aunt do laundry in her wringer washer and hanging up the clothes on the line. Going to Sears in Greenville, SC with my parents to purchase a 1971 Lady Kenmore washer in white then going back a month later purchasing the matching dryer in avacodo. Fridays during the summer when I was out of school for summer vacation. Doing the laundry in Mamas older Lady Kenmore then the new 1971 Lady Kenmore and hanging the clothes on the line. The smell of fresh sheets on the bed after they had been dried outside on the line. I was doing the familys laundry at 9 years old and loved doing it. I still love doing laundry and am fascinated with washers. Now, and as a child, I can tell you what type and brand washer and dryer all my close relatives, in-laws, and friends have and have even grabbed a peak when they were washing! Another favorite memory is watching my sisters 1965 Speed Queen washer. I was fascinated by the filter on this machine and would slip into her utility room and watch it wash every chance I got. My sister finally let me wash her towels and sheets for her so I could watch this washer. My BIL thought I was wierd and would tease me and tell me I would make someone a good wife someday.
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
My mothers 1971 Lady Kenmore washer (white) and matching dryer (avacodo). I replaced these in 1998 or 1999 with Sears 90 Series washer and matching 90 Series dryer (was told these were the ones which replaced Lady Kenmore), 2001 KitchenAid fridge, 1988 Frigidaire gas range, 1977 Whirlpool dishwasher, 1974 Frigidaire electric range, 1996 Maytag dishwasher, 2000 Kenmore Ultra Wash dishwasher, 1992 Kenmore fridge, Sunbeam canister vacuum, 1973 Hoover upright vacuum, professional blender from a barkeeper supply store, 2007 WP Gold dishwasher, 2006 WP Gold fridge (this was a gift from my MIL).
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
I replaced the dryer elements twice on the 1971 Lady Kenmore dryer. Some small minor repairs...nothing major.
