What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
My parents bought a Maytag Neptune set when I was a kid. My Dad had several old Whirlpool top load washers that were parts donors for the pair they had before the Maytags. I remember helping him change out a transmission on one of them when I was a kid.
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
The Hobart DW in my house is original to the house (first and only DW installed in the early 80s)
It’s how I found this site, when I was looking up information about it. I’ve acquired 3 WP/Kenmore dryers all for free at various points, and have done minor work on them to get them working well. The first one was a 2005 MOL electric dryer with a hamper door, and the second was slightly older (2002) MOL with more options for temperature. I also had a mid 90s gas Kenmore dryer that was a gift from my grandparents. The LG washer and gas dryer were recent purchase for a laundry room/bath remodel I’m in the process of doing. The washer was new, and I purchased the gas dryer used.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
I’ve done some work on appliances before- my uncle has several rentals and I’ve repaired units that leak or have other issues (mainly WP Duets, he really likes those). The Maytag French door refrigerator got a paint job on one of the doors and the handles before being installed in my kitchen, and had a gasket replaced. The LG dryer needed a new motor, and I did the idler pulley and belt while I was in there. I‘ve done minor repairs on the Kenmore dryers that I’ve owned (relay replacement, lint cleaning, etc). Ive replaced drain bellows and door gaskets, and water pumps on several LG/Kenmore FL washers that were for my parents and friends. Regrettably the latter Kenmore my parents owned was chucked out after a water pump and gasket replacement, when the control board failed and the washer would no longer spin.
