other than which wands/grip they fit, they are virtually identical. Same brushroll, same motor and same internal airflow channel. There are marginal differences in the belt length, 1/8 of an inch. The latest version, the SideKick III fits only the Platinum and Guardian Ultra wands.

the sitting for a couple of years after intial use is the issue. If you really get the dispenser clean, or replace it, your problem will be over. Sitting unused, the JetDry either got corrpted or dehydrated, both are slimy. You probably not getting wash water in the dispenser at all, the stuff...

I clean mine every other month, and even with 5 Great Danes sharing my home I rarely have much in the filter. I did let it go once.. and that was enough for me to learn my lesson.
