    12v Automobile Battery

There’s some major issues lately with 12v batteries made after COVID times, especially in Hybrid/electric vehicles, or both. It’s some kind of enshitification of the battery manufacturing, or the materials, or a combo of poor automobile programming. My Jeep battery died under OEM warranty...

    KUDD23 saves the day

@combo52 Hey thanks for the tips. I was actually thinking the same thing, of getting some thermal paste to see if that would help. I did a couple extra tests though, I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner.... I wanted to, in a controlled way, figure out when these thermostats were...

    KUDD23 saves the day

So I noticed some washability and drying issues creeping up shortly after re-installing the KUDD23. After some monitoring and temp measurements, I noticed that the main wash was just not heating up in the main wash like it used to. Previous observations showed that the thermal hold would trip...

    Throwing away food

In my experience, only the organic milk that is ultra-pasteurized, lasts 4-5 weeks. Regular milk, seems to go sour within 2 weeks. Again, IME.

Speed Queen Special Military Edition Washer

LOL you say that, but when I’m at the airport, I see just as many or more BOOMERS with their faces in their MAX screen phones. My dad in his 70s is on his phone more than me.

Are New Appliances Always Doomed? Why A Grass Roots Movement Could Change Things

Basic AF. Too small. Uses too much water. Doesn’t meet my needs anymore. This is a bachelor apartment washer.

Whirlpool Parts Now Can’t be Found for Newer Washers?

It’s not uncommon for brand new appliances to not have replacement parts posted on parts websites for 6 months, up to a year at times. When the brand new dishwasher platform came out, I didn’t start seeing parts pop up form them on RepairClinic for over 6mos. And I had to wait longer for some...

Are New Appliances Always Doomed? Why A Grass Roots Movement Could Change Things

Matt I’ll throw you a bone. I don’t care about the website thing. But the self destruct chips and circuits are super interesting. Can you share what product had them and what the layouts were like? As fantastical as something like that is, I bet it’s quite memorable who had them and what they...

    Dryer Sheets

In order to keep my dispensers clean, I’ve moved to the Method dryer sheets over liquid. The Method sheets are on sheets of perforated paper, which seems to work well enough. I won’t get any the retail brands. They’re all spun plastic PE or rayon. I don’t want to buy or make more plastic...

Are New Appliances Always Doomed? Why A Grass Roots Movement Could Change Things

@phillymatt53 When do you think I could get confirmation on the designs of self destruct chips and circuitry you’ve identified in products over the years? Are they close to what I’ve laid out previously? Can you share chip part numbers?

Are New Appliances Always Doomed? Why A Grass Roots Movement Could Change Things

Ok, since Phillymatt is such a fan of facts, I did a little research on self destruct circuitry. There are several ways to implement this in a circuit design. Physically Unclonable Function (PUF) Chips These chips generate a unique “fingerprint” based on inherent physical variations. Some...

Are New Appliances Always Doomed? Why A Grass Roots Movement Could Change Things

Oh wise one, can you please explain in detail how you and your prepper friends identified all these self-destruct chips? I can’t seem to find them on Digikey. Are they under a secret code?

Are New Appliances Always Doomed? Why A Grass Roots Movement Could Change Things

Agreed. I was going to say this. I did an IOT project with fire safety some years ago. Texas Instruments had to modify and make a custom chip to have it work. We would have our factory sand off the TI part. I bet to make sure Google couldn’t reverse engineer or contact TI about the chip they...
