Thanks John. Yes we are looking for an entire unit now. So rare. I just love that old washer and yes I have a matching dryer. I have old cast iron sewing machines too. Love the simplicity and the style of old machines.

UPDATE: Maytag LA408 Leaking Oil My repairman has taken the machine apart at his shop. There was water in the transmission, and the transmission is "loose". He is looking at replacing the transmission or at least some parts. We are having a hard time finding parts, or a complete transmission...

I have always owned Maytag washing machines, and only two 70's models since my first one at age 27 when I bought my first house. They were both bought used. The dryer must have had a "senior moment". The dial suddenly started to behave. Now I can move it to where I want without it starting, give the dial button a little push, and off it goes! Here's a pic of my "new" set so you can see the dials I'm talking about.

Here are two photos of my "new" Maytags! They were taken by the auctioneer at the auction hall. Not a scratch on them - they look like new. And they are both VERY quiet.

Thanks, that's good to know. But I can't push in or pull out the knob in the dial like I can for the washer. The dryer will start as soon as I move the dial, and buzz, start, stop, buzz until I get to the cycle I want. I would have thought that I could push the knob in, quietly select the cycle...

I went ahead and got a part locally (The Horton Company 525 valve - replaces CW151) which fits and works. But maybe I should bid on that Maytag part so I have a spare. Thanks all, I am busy doing laundry tonight and everything is humming along and working well so far. Washing machine dial does...

I never had a matching Maytag dryer before. Now I have one to go with my "new" LA408 but the dial is confusing me. On my washer, the dial moves clockwise as it goes through it's cycle. But on the dryer I am confused because it moves the opposite way as it dries. Also, the dial does not push in...

Can you still get a genuine Maytag part for such an old machine?

Can't see a problem so we have to replace the water inlet valve. I have checked prices on the internet and they vary $26 - $35. I want to get the right part - but it looks like one of them (the cheaper one) is blue plastic. I don't know what the more expensive one looks like but the part number...
