Thank you John
It is indeed a very brief sound. And yes, it’s the quietest and smoothest compressor I’ve ever heard. I feel much, much better!!Thank you sir.
I keep changing the subject in the same post and I know I’m not supposed to do that but I read somewhere that Coppertone was the...
John and David?
Any opinions? I think this might be a Seeger rotary compressor. I even wondered if I’m just hearing a variation from the magnetic field when the start winding and run winding are briefly energized at the same time during start up.
Can’t figure it out…
Can’t get you a video. Phone is too old. It sounds exactly like the old meter misers did on start up only it’s much shorter. Basically lasts about as long as the start winding is in the circuit then smooth and quiet after that. No noise at all on shutdown.
Another Question Please
My Coldspot is very, very quiet except for a split second when it first starts up. I wouldn’t say the sound is loud, but you can hear it if you are close enough. It’s just a fraction of a second when it starts up where it’s normal sound is louder. Kind of like the meter...
Thank You
Thanks. Checked the thermostat with my meter while encased in frost and it was open. Found a new old stock one at an appliance service shop in my area that’s been around forever. It was an exact replacement, very easy job and she works like new again.
Thank you!!
Hello All,
My prized copper tone Coldspot refrigerator is not auto defrosting. I pulled the freezer floor panel out and it’s a solid mass of ice. The time switch appears to be working properly but when I ohm out this thing (while it’s encased in ice) it is open. Is this my defrost thermostat...
Thank you John
The Coldspot is a top freezer two-door frost free. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it regarding run time, it just runs more because it’s frost free.
I had a 40’s refrigerator in my other house that I figured wouldn’t run another decade as well. That was 20 years ago...
I am trying to select a vintage refrigerator for my kitchen. I’m looking for something that will go for a very long time. I found 2 that I absolutely love and need to choose one. Both are one-owner cream puffs in near mint condition.
The first is a 1954 International Harvester. Built like a...
I have a 1960's turqouise Frigidaire "Frost Proof" refrigerator. And it's for sale.
I've had this beauty as my primary fridge for the past 15 years. About two years ago, I replaced the defrost timer with a NOS Frigidaire part that I obtained from a retired Frigidaire service tech. I also...
Freezer to Fridge?
Doubtful. Freezers have an evaporator coil that runs under every shelf throughout the freezer space. With that much cooling going on you're still going to freeze things by the nature and design of the system itself.
Also, these older units normally had a thermostat capillary...
Thanks
Thanks John!! I wasn't sure what it was. There is a factory bracket behind the kickpanel on the front right and the replacement defrost timer bolted right to it. That's got me wondering if this unit still HAD a defrost timer like any other model, but this thermostat was sort of an extra...

One Strange Thing...
I did find something under my 1967 Frigidaire that's odd... there's what appears to be some sort of thermostat under there that was originally mounted to something, my guess is the condenser coil. It's got a long capillary tube on it. I read that Frigidaires if this vintage...
