congrats on your new dishwasher. The slots in the main wash cup of the detergent dispenser; permit water to flush through in the event the lid cannot fully open. This can occur when a "mis-loaded" item blocks the lid. There is a diagram of this in the use and care.

This model could be affected by the 2007 rinse aid dispenser recall. Check the Maytag website to confirm.

some GE machines don't have a tub mounted power shower. So this upper rack tower serves that purpose. There is a vertical jet of water from the power tower that is diffused over the top of upper rack by the upper rack spray tube.

If that is the dryer I think it is, the drum is a couple of inches deeper than the traditional GE model. The electric version had the heating element in a duct under the drum. Additionally, the drum has plastic baffles instead of the formed porcelainized steel.
