I have two direct drive machines with different cabinet widths: a 24" from 1984, and a 27" from 1987.
Can the porcelain basket from the larger machine be modified to fit the smaller one?

Correction:
Looks like my ears deceived me.
It's coming from the TOP of the basket, which also has a rubber plug.
(apparently for the fill hole)

Using oil would make more sense; over time water and/or antifreeze would presumably cause corrosion.
(Just look at what water does to the underside of a basket's center post.)
