Laundress I don't know about the rest of you, but I had no idea that Persil smelled like a dead body before I bought it. I poured some Era in there to keep from pouring a whole bottle of Persil down the drain.

I had some Era and poured it in Persil. The stench of the Persil was sickening. I don't know if mixing it is a good idea or not. Maybe someone who understands about the chemistry of detergents can tell us.

Are any of you aware of research that supports long washes being better than a soak? I do both but wondered.

I know there are some front load machines that can wash/agitate/tumble for an hour. Do any of you know the benefits of a cycle of that length and would a soak cycle be just as good? BTW, I am not speaking of a cycle that includes the rinse.

I forgot to say that I used a top load Speed Queen to do the laundry. I can't speak for how it would work with an HE or front load machine.
