White residue under glasses in Bosch Serie 8 dishwasher — annoying persistent issue since purchase, how can I fix it & is it normal?

Some models do state they can be used with the rack tilted, eg:- https://www.currys.co.uk/products/bosch-series-6-perfectdry-sms6zcw10g-fullsize-wifienabled-dishwasher-white-10261950.html I usually get a white deposit on the bottom of my stainless steel teapot. The water here is a bit...

Australian laws are introducing the “two buttons start”

My old dryer, a 1980s Hotpoint you set the dial and it started when the door latched, but as it was only 6kg capacity, it would have been a bit small for a kid to fit in. It certainly wasn't child friendly, as it also had the element behind a metal donut at the front of the drum which would have...

Australian laws are introducing the “two buttons start”

Glass door. A bluetooth thermometer, admittedly, not as demanding as wifi, works fine in my fridge (which has a steel back).

Australian laws are introducing the “two buttons start”

If they make the machine too complicated, parents will end up getting their kids to show them how to work it. :D

Australian laws are introducing the “two buttons start”

Surely, if you are going to require this stupid thing, the requirement should be that you have to press your combination of buttons to release the lock to be able to open or close the door, so a kid also can't climb in and suffocate if the door is closed. Maybe they should require an emergency...

Finally, a word of sanity about wash water temperatures

I mostly wash at 40°C (104F), which I've read is the minimum temperature for the hydrogen peroxide produced by the sodium percarbonate in the powder I use to kills 99.9% of bacteria in the wash and also keeps the machine clean and odour and bacteria free. If I was using a more expensive powder...

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

Dishwasher were quite slow catching on over here, only 18% of UK homes had one in 1994 according to this article:- The dishwasher dream I think we got our first sometime in the 80s, it was Hotpoint branded, but designed and manufactured by Bosch, so was a bit of a bargain. Hotpoint were...

Speed Queen front load detergent/ dispenser/ cycle question

In front loaders at least, liquid detergents tend to leave a light coating of residue from the detergent behind, especially if you use a larger dose (eg for hard water) so you may also get excessive foam from the old detergent residue dissolving, for the first few times after changing from...

    GE Washers Exploding

Asko's "Quattro construction". The 1980 Hotpoint Microtronic's tub was supported from below by three shock absorber units surrounded by beefy springs and had a concrete block with just a thin spring running from the concrete weight to the front of the machine and one to the back to stop it...

Whirlpool and Samsung are reducing the maximum spin speed on their washers

I'm not convinced that's the case, but perhaps you mean liquid detergents. We've very hard water, and I didn't descale our current machine for the first 3 years, and had two elements blow and the coin trap filter got stuck in place by limescale. For the last 13 years, I've descaled it annually...

Whirlpool and Samsung are reducing the maximum spin speed on their washers

Spin speeds on (front load) washing machines sold in the UK have got a little slower in recent years, at one time some manufacturers were doing 1,800rpm and 2.000rpm spin machines, although the gains over 1,600rpm were pretty marginal. 1,600rpm seems to be the max now. 2,000rpm Gorenje: Spin...

Whirlpool and Samsung are reducing the maximum spin speed on their washers

I'm certainly no expert, but I believe having a higher RPM / lower torque electric PMS motor makes it more energy efficient, and also mean you can have a smaller, lighter motor with thinner windings. So uses less copper masking it cheaper too. Downsides potentially more noise and the motor...

Wisk and Persil detergents over the years...

Lever brothers launched Wisk liquid in the UK in the late 80s, but it was only sold here for a few years. It was the first liquid detergent I'd seen in our local supermarket, although that may just have been because they had a big chuck of shelf space loaded up with the orangey red bottles at...
