What are your dream machines yet to be found?
An induction cooktop.
What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
My first personal dishwasher was a WDT780SAEM. Loved the rack-mounted silverware basket.
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
I only started with appliances when living on my own in college. I had an all Whirlpool kitchen with mid-range SS models that gave me zero issues for the 6 years I was there; they werent very fancy but well designed and performed well. This is when I started to appreciate appliances and all the things that go into them, yet remain unappreciated/not thought about by most. My parents have high-end (from 2007) models of Wolf, Gaggenau, and Miele appliances which I use when dogistting for them. For the latter two, I appreciate the precision of their engineering though the benefits can be questionable at times.

My condo came with a low-priced SS Frigidaire suite. The FGID2466QF dishwasher was functional yet miserable and cheaply made machine. Racks were rusting despite being less than 5 years old. The basic top-freezer fridge started a slow death around year 3 and was dead by 4. Microwave and range had no functional issues, just were similarly cheaply made and poorly designed. Replaced those with FB Marketplace sourced Wolf units at ridiculously low prices (less than a new Maytag gas range total). I cook and bake plenty and appreciate the extra functionality, as well as the solid engineering.

The Miele G7166 I own I spent many months deliberating on. I was prepared to go with a WDT750SAKZ after good experiences with my last one and very reasonable prices; it is also worth appreciating its simplicity and reasonable parts cost. However, knowing how long the Miele could last was a factor in the splurge. At the time, they marketed the G7166 as having remote-starting capability, but when I got my unit I realized this was a mistake they made in marketing. Their customer support was unsympathetic and rude, despite admitting to the mistake in writing they offered no compensation (not even extra free PowerDisk detergent!). So, I filed in small claims court alleging false-advertising and won. While I absolutely love the dishwasher, their business practices and god-awful customer treatment have turned me off of the brand entirely.

I spend far too much time reading parts diagrams and schematics for dishwashers, and have even reached out to consumer reports to point out mistakes in their ratings for dishwashers (they say some models should perform similar to one they have tested, however they dont realize there are some big differences between them that would affect scoring!). Whenever I travel, I enjoy booking places to stay with kitchens just so I can check out the appliances.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
Im generally handy but have not had to repair much yet. Replaced a convection fan in my wolf L-Series oven because it was out of balance, and repaired the rotating display motor (a common failure on these). The cooktop I disassembled to correct the alignment of some components. My current Whirlpool WMH53521HZ microwave was a scratch and dent, I replaced portions of the door assembly.
