    The downfall of Philips

Reminds me of companies like Bell and Howell...an old name, but the actual company hasn't existed in ages...and other companies license the name. Hubby's favorite razor in his collection is a 60s Norelco, which was his daily driver for years. I have a number of vintage ladies electrics, too...

Toaster Oven Thread ... what's on your counter?

GE Versatron I LOVE this thread! I actually was about to make a toaster oven thread, and am glad that there is one already! Our GE Versatron is one of our favorite small appliances. Picked it up for a song at an estate sale years ago, and it's really one of the hardest working gadgets in our...

    GE electric burner blues

Ralph, that's fascinating about the High setting...and it explains why sometimes we put it on High and then lift the pot or pan to see how it's working, and are dismayed to see that the coils aren't all bright red! So that means the heat transfer is doing good ... wow, this is all so new to me...

    GE mustard yellow beauty!

John, the second picture is indeed black and white. The house had a lot of other neat vintage stuff, including a turquoise Club stock pot with lid ... that is now happy in our kitchen! Joeekaitis, French's please!

    "Be a Good Mixer"

Mixers! We love our 1971 era Sunbeam mixer. The attachments are terrific on these things, too. But this article got me to thinking ... do they still make and sell mixers these days? Or were those mixers of the 60s and 70s the last hurrah before the Cuisinart, and then the Vita-Mix, and then ...

Vintage GE refrigerator and basement defrosting woes

Frost free! Just snapped this pic of the freezer this morning. We haven't defrosted this big boy since last July!! It's incredible!!

    GE electric burner blues

Concerned about running Red Hot John, Thanks so much for the additional info. This is new to us about the running red hot. Does that mean you should never turn them on High? If so, this is going to be a major, major change for us. Our cooking style is to usually put a burner on High for a...

    GE electric burner blues

Thanks for the tips, Eddie! These had screws to keep them in place, and when they were installed the screws were removed so that we could lift the burners all the way out when cleaning. It seems like that might not be the ideal way to do it, after all, and it might be better to keep the...

Vintage GE refrigerator and basement defrosting woes

Going like a dream! Very little maintenance. We have an appliance brush and I keep the coils clean, keep the top dust free, otherwise it seems like there's very little to do!

    GE electric burner blues

No, there's no retainer component. It's just a metal frame, and the burner rests inside it. It really looks like the old ones. I did save the old burners, so if it comes to it I could have someone put one of the old ones back. I like having a complete matching set. Aside from having to clean...

    GE mustard yellow beauty!

Last autumn we helped a friend with an estate. Very cool house, late 60s early 70s built and most of the stuff inside was original. Including this mustard yellow GE stove!

    GE electric burner blues

Hey guys, We've been having a little issue with our 50s GE electric range. It seems pretty minor, but it's driving me batty! A few years ago we were advised to change all our burners. We still had the original burners, one of them had gone out but the others were still in decent shape. But we...

Vintage GE refrigerator and basement defrosting woes

Better than ever! Hey all, happy new year! It's been Wow, over 8 months since we made the big fridge repair. And that's been plenty time to test it out, so I've got GREAT news to report: It's not only fixed, but it's better than ever! Our happy boy is happier than ever in his new basement...

Vintage GE refrigerator and basement defrosting woes

Multiple fridges That's funny, because it's the same situation with us. All our fridges have a purpose, and they're filling them very well. I'll post an update about the gaskets when it's all said and done. We're pretty confident we can get it going just like it used to be ...
