    I made soap!

Enjoy it! Soap making is quite fun, isn`t? Well, made a few batches myself and enjoyed making it but didn`t care much for the soap. I did the cold process method emulsifying the soap with a stick blender and calculated to some excess fat content but always found the outcome totally inferior...

New Miele DW does not regenerate

Thanks again for all the helpful replies, 5 minutes ago the Miele did its first regenerating cycle. (What a relief... LOL) A series of opening and shutting the water inlet while the pump runs continuously before the actual cycle starts. First I had a talk on the phone with Miele which was...

New Miele DW does not regenerate

Thanks Henrik! It was an Online order to store pick up. (I`m cheap I know LOL) Anyway I`m not in their loyalty program and it`s been more than 6 weeks ago so I have very little hope for an exchange. Will give it another try or two and if there`s still no regeneration will have to do something...

New Miele DW does not regenerate

Henrik, It`s a G 5110 and yes it has the filter in the center of the sump. No AutoOpen and I purposely choose it for it`s D energy rating to still get higher last rinse temperatures which should improve drying and overall hygiene because tend to use lower temp wash cycles for dishes quite often...

New Miele DW does not regenerate

Mark unfortunately I don`t have any test strips on hand and currently also using all in one tabs, so I couldn`t even tell from the look of the dishes. But great idea and I`ll pay extra attention to the final minutes listening for an open water valve.

New Miele DW does not regenerate

Ok, I´ll give it more time and keep an eye on it. Maybe it`s just way more economical than expected. Currently it has done a 2nd cycle with hardness set on 70°dH and still no regeneration. My water hardness is only around 18°dH but my impatience made me set it to 70°dH. LOL I find the results...

New Miele DW does not regenerate

Thanks for the reply! It never did a series of fills and drains in the six weeks I`ve had it, so I think it`s time to make a call.

New Miele DW does not regenerate

After 22 years my old Bosch decided to no longer heat the water and to be honest I was glad it did so I could finally justify a new dishwasher. (That`s the downside if you can do minor repairs yourself) Got a BOL Miele and while it seems to be a tad louder than the Bosch I like really like it...

Tide Hygienic Clean Heavy Duty-Free & Clear Liquid - Discontinued

You are aware that advertising is more about make believe and selling things than about facts? LOL I don`t think anyone actually believes or expects a 10x detergent to be 10 times stronger, better or whatever than their standard version.

Persil Wonder Wash - Short cycle detergent liquid - anyone tried/reviewed it?

According to my textbook on detergent chemistry OBAs can be a huge problem on pastels but they don`t have a visible impact on bright and dark colors. I also remember an older consumer test on color detergents where one of the products contained OBAs. IIRC color protection was no worse than the...

Persil Wonder Wash - Short cycle detergent liquid - anyone tried/reviewed it?

Darks are actually the least susceptible colors to OBAs. In normal daylight you wouldn`t even notice any difference. In blacklight like in a nightclub or under bad fluorescent lamps that emit a higher dose of UV rays as they are supposed to things might look different of course. The most...

    Dish soap clogging dispenser

The amount of water just determines the strength of a product, adding more wouldn`t help much to keep it from drying out. Alcohol and salts are added for the perfect texture or viscosity. Alcohol among other things can make detergent mixtures more liquid or "runny", salts make things thicker...

how long to wear jeans before washing them

Usually I wear them 3-4 days all seasons unless they get visibly dirty then I change them immediately of course. For me the length of an acceptable "wear cycle" of clothes stands and falls with how clean they are to beginn with. When travelling with a small carry on bag only I might wear them...

Black Plastic Kitchen Utensils & Food Containers May Contain Toxic Chemical

Sorry for bringing an old thread back alive, but I think it`s not that old to justify starting a new one. So the German consumer magazine Test picked up the story about toxic flame retardants in black US cooking utensils, sent 26 different EU samples to a lab and all of them were deemed okay...

LG Washer - Does it have a sanitary cycle via downloaded cycle?

Batman, I live in Germany and use a Miele. The maximum temperature on the dial is 95°C (203°F) and the those cycles are still called "Kochwäsche" (boil wash) here but in fact no European washer for household use can go over 89°C (192°F) by design anymore, because the excessive steam would deform...
