What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
My grandparents 81 Maytag Jetclean dishwasher, our 1990 KitchenAid washer, and my grandmothers early 80s Lady Kenmore washer
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
In my youth I have only owned a handful of appliances, which are all basically the ones I have now. I do have a Maytag Atlantis (push button controls) at my boyfriends parents house, which is still running like a charm after their LG front loader went out. As far as my familys appliances, we had a KitchenAid Superba top loader that was bought in 90, an early 80s Kenmore dryer, and then later on a GE Nautilus dishwasher (which was a nightmare). My grandparents had the coolest appliances: a Lady Kenmore Solid State washer (belt drive), and a Maytag Jetclean that I believe was early 80s as well (also Solid State controls). About 7 years ago, a friend of my grandmothers passed away, and her sister asked if she wanted their relatively new and gently used GE washer/dryer set. They traded the machines, and if I had known then what I know now, I would have told them to hold on to the Lady with both arms and legs. The GE has electronic dial controls, but the mechanics of it are terrible, and now the transmission is popping horribly and we cant figure out the problem, so I told them to use it until it dies and find a good old fashioned washer. My Papaw (mothers side) had a few washers through the years, an RCA FilterFlo copy, a GE FilterFlo, a White-Westinghouse (straight vane tub-indexing), and another GE, but this one with the Filter Ring instead. I miss those things to death, especially the GEs clunk-bang when the spin cycles end. My aunt also has some great machines, an 01 Whirlpool PowerClean QP2, and a Frigidaire top load from 98, both working like brand new to this day, with heavy usage.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
Yes, I specialize mostly in dishwashers and washing machines. Ive grown up with a passion for anything with moving mechanical parts, especially machines that involve water. I used to spend a lot of time as a young kid reading books and finding info in libraries/on the internet about how different models of appliances work and how to disassemble/repair them.
