Tell us about your collection
In an apartment - just my Whirlpool Calypsos, vacuums(Compact, Hoover Concept II, Rainbow, Simplicity, Bernina, Electrolux, Silverado Deluxe(has powerhead), many hand mixers, coffee percs, Toasters and toaster ovens, stereo consoles(7), and stereo tuners, waffle irons, irons, and other stuff. :-)
What are your dream machines yet to be found?
Changes with exposure but right now..ABC-O-MATIC - love the scale, panel and see through window. 2) 1957 CGV-C Philco Bendix Duomatics. Admire the Westinghouse, and love so many others in design..Frigidaire mostly, GE, and my mind goes on.
What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
Mom using an wringer washer next to our basement sink, where she saved suds for other washes, and watching it overflow onto the floor but saved by a nearby drain. Then, wringing the wash(with some complaints near the end of its life) and how she would let me help. I cant believe I remember this from age 2-3 years old, before my sister was born. The gas dryer was especially fascinating, with the blue flame, on the lower right side. I loved helping my mom bake(I never missed "the cooking lady" , as I called her, on tv in the early 50s). My earliest memories of our refrigerator was the one with rotating shelves. The newer washer, a Hotpoint, was not as interesting as the wringer(no view to what was going on inside). I loved all our appliances and watching anything cook, fry, bake, clothes washed and dried. Most memorable: the ginormous banging noise from the washer when it became off-balanced. Dad eventually bore four bolts through into the cement and secured it. That was its "Last Tango". :-)
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
2005 GE/ 1999 Frigidaire Washer and dryers both F/L/ Maytag LDA/3 482 (sadly sold), and currently using Whirlpool Calypso W&D set.
