What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
-KA-14 Superba dishwasher, bought by my parents in 1961. From age six I was responsible to unload it and put away the dishes, and within a year or two I was loading and operating it.
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
-New house bought in 1988 came with awful GE appliances. Bought the cheapest White Westinghouse washer and dryer I could find at Costco when I moved in, as budget was tight. As things wore out, I replaced them. Second washer dryer set were GEs and did ok, but washer died after ten years and I bought the current Frigidaire set in March 2006. Kitchen appliances (range and dishwasher) were updated in 2001, and new fridge from 2004. The best find of all was the range, for $700 it performs as well as the Jenn Air or KA models costing twice as much. I only have a 120V outlet and a gas line behind the range, and so had to wait until several companies began making gas convection (vs. electric) ranges. I could only choose between JA, KA, GE, or Frigidaire, there were only four brands of gas convection ranges on the market then, now just about everyone makes a gas convection range. I guess they figured there was a big market for people who wanted to upgrade but who still wanted to cook with gas and who did not want to rip out a wall just to install 240V.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
Basic home repairs to (former) TL washer and dryer. My current Frigidaire 2140/1142 set have required no repairs or attention in four years of service.
