What are your dream machines yet to be found?
A 1959 Philco Duomatic like my Mother had (and I loved to watch!) Robert has one!
What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
The 1959 Philco Bendix Duomatic that my Mother AND my Aunt had - so much fun to watch the clothes sloshing about, spinning slow, then shifting into HIGH SPEED spin! I used to love to open the bottom access door to see things moving about - especially during the spin cycle!
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
We keep them a long time. Mother had a 1964 or 1965 RCA Whirlpool Imperial set that she kept until we got the Kenmores in 1987. Now I wish Id have kept them! No internet back in 1987 to find others with my interest in appliances. The 1967 house Im in came with all Hotpoint "Custom Crafted" kitchen appliances - the most interesting was the electric double oven with Rota-Grill rotisserie and meat probe thermometer. It had a lighted glass control panel and a "switch" on each door to turn on the light in the oven. Coppertone. Had a KDS-18A dishwasher from 1977 until the Maytag replaced it in 1994 due to rusted out sump. Had an Amana "RadarRange" also from 1977 - gave it to a friend in 1988 when GE space maker took its place. Family had a 1954 "Firestone" refrigerator with the "push button defrost" feature. In 1968, family replaced that with a Coldspot 2 door frost free model. In 1987 that was replaced with a GE 23Z top freezer that lived on until 2011 when it was replaced with the current Whirlpool unit. The Firestone unit was the "garage fridge" until 1993 when it was given away to another family member for use in a workshop.
A house we rented in Billings, MT in 1966 had a built-in APEX DISH-A-MATIC top-loading dishwasher - our first dishwasher EVER.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
Minor repairs - replaced timer on Whirlpool Dryer, replaced soap door latch boot on Maytag dishwasher and agitator "dogs" on current Kenmore washer.
