-a 1995 model old style GE WWA6600S single-speed washer(my Grandma has it now), a brand new recently bought Speed Queen AWN412 top-loader washer, and Ive also got an older model Osterizer blender, and a Whirlpool DU930PWP Power-Clean built-in dishwasher. My Mom has a 2000 model direct-drive Kenmore top-load washer
What are your dream machines yet to be found?
-a belt drive Whirlpool Estate Series washer, a 1970s model GM-Frigidaire 1-18 washer, an older Fedders Norge built older-style made washer(like an Admiral)
What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
-when I was a baby at about 2-3-4 years old, and my Mom had this 1960s Kenmore washing machine that had a lot of chrome and a black Bakelite straight-vaned agitator I always took out and put back.(she also had a Maytag wringer). But it was a sad day when my Dad got rid of it. My Grandma had a 1971 Kenmore washer with an amber-colored brownish-gold, straight-vaned agitator that I really enjoyed back at those times too. There was also a local laundromat(I have about eight different video copies of it)that had belt driven Whirlpool washers, and belt driven Kenmore washers all coin-operated (you could hear them all woo-wooing away). My aunt had a mid-to-late 1970s belted Whirlpool washer that had a standard capacity, and a white Super Surgilator agitator. But as it got older(shed overload it)it squeaked as it spun out, and it rattled and made so much noise, you couldnt stand to run it. It gave her spin clutch troubles!Another aunt of mine had a 1972 belted Kenmore washing machine with a brownish-gold Super Roto-Swirl agitator, but in a few months, it made this loud noise when it first started up, and as the bearings would warm up, the loud noise would go away. She eventually bought a 1983 model belt-driven Whirlpool Supreme washer she had for such a long time(shes .got a Maytag Performa washer, now).Ive always been fascinated by washing machines since I was a baby, but people never understood why. I used to think that I was the only one that liked washers, until I discovered this website!
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
-The first washing machine I ever got was a late 1960s to early 1970s Whirlpool Silver Anniversary washer with a large capacity tub and a large low-vane Super Surgilator white agitator and a brush lint filter, but it was a play-tinker washer. It was broken. Then my second washer I got was an old-style 1995 model single-speed GE washer (and I gave it to my sister, because her Maytag washer started shooting water on the floor on her, then she gave it back, then my Grandmas direct-drive Kenmore washer went out and I gave it to her, and she is still using it). Then in February 14, 2001(on St. Valentines Day)I bought the 1978 model belt-driven Whirlpool Supreme washer that worked great! Then in September 2006, we acquired a brand new Whirlpool built-in dishwasher, and then in September 2009, my cousin gave me that GE old-style WWA7600S two-speed washer of hers- But I gave up the GE WWA7600S and the 1978 BD Whirlpool up for the brand new Speed Queen AWN412 top-loader washer.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
-When my Dad and I first brought my 1978 model belt-driven Whirlpool Supreme washer home,I raised the top on it, I replaced that broken snubber spring, and snubber, cleaned all that gunk off the top of the tub ring, lowered the top down, snapped it back in place, then tipped the washer onto its front, inspected the parts, cleaned the cobwebs all out, checked everything, then set the machine upright and run it some on the spin cycles(it wasnt hooked up yet, but in a few months time it was and it worked flawlessly).
