Only new models--Frigemore FL and matching dryer, Roper side-by-side fridge and dishwasher, GE gas range and freezer.
What are your dream machines yet to be found?
I'd like to find a pink or aqua FL set from the 50s or 60s. It's too bad they don't make appliances in good colors any more.
What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
I remember being vaguely afraid of our washer when I was but a wee tot.
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
We had an Easy TL when I was a small child. Bought right after my brother was born, so it musta been a '58. Had it until '69 when we moved--it didn't survive the trip. It was replaced by a KM. Still have the instruction manual. Nothing really interesting--2 speeds, 3 levels, 3 temps. Had that for a number of years until it was replaced by another KM with pretty much the same configuration. Had the Dual Action agitator. When that one gave up the ghost, I replaced it with a Frigidaire TL that we had for at least 10 years with no problems at all. It stayed behind when we moved. Only thing I didn't like about it was that it tangled clothes rather severely.
We got a coppertone Coldspot fridge in about 65-66 that was still going strong when we moved in 2003. It occasionally made a squealing noise, though only in the winter.
Only other appliance of note was our Tappan Gallery range from about '73, in avocado green, no less! Had the warming shelf up top. Was handy for keeping stuff, but I can't remember ever using it for warming. Had the "continuous cleaning" oven which is possibly the WORST invention ever!
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
Only thing I ever did was replace the drive belt on a 20-something year old LK compact dryer. Everything else I left to the Professionals!
