if you had to chose a dishwasher today what would you go with modern or vintage

I'm sorry to hear about ea56 problem with the 10 month old Whirlpool as I have that exact same dishwasher and I love it. This is one of the first newer dishwashers I've had that really cleans dishes fairly quietly in a timely manner. This one replaced a Maytag Quiet II that was a disaster and...

Help my thoughts - Old speed ovens

I do remember in the mid 60's Westinghouse introduced the "No turn speed broil" that used triple pass electric elements above and below the food to broil steak in half the time. Can't imagine the mess to clean of that afterwards!

    Cleaning a Vollrath warmer well

If you buy Allen's cleaning vinegar it will take off those deposits. Cleaning vinegar is about 3 times stronger than regular. I get mine at Walmart in Canada. Use it full strength. It's only about $3 for a big jug.

    Favorite 1950's sci fi movies

I have to say my favorite is the 1958 version of The Blob with Steve McQueen.

    POD 1-19-18

My mom had this same washer from 1976 to 1988 when they sold the house and the new owners wanted that washer badly. It was still going strong with never a repair. She always left the door open a bit after washing to dry so there was never any mold or rust or funky smells. I know many people...

Updating safety on Presto Pressure Cookers

A little off topic but picture 2 has the reflection of a beautiful grandfathers clock. Stunning!

    Goofballs on HGTV

My Gosh I so agree with the majority of you that are saying these shows are silly. I think the thing that bothers me the most is when a couple comes into a perfectly reasonable kitchen and says "it needs a total gut". You know all of it will end in the dumpster...what a terrible waste. I say...

    Mystery appliance behind Doris.....

Something tells me Doris has learned Gladys' trick for keeping the hooch in the Frigidaire!

    French Door Ovens Are Back

I cook in a commercial kitchen where we have a Garland electric convection French door oven. Several people have received nasty burns off of the doors either bumping into them or not fully opening them. Personally for that reason I'm not a big fan.

    Favorite Vintage Appliance Designs?

IMHO Canadian Westinghouse late 60's early 70's electric ranges with the lighted glass panel behind the control knobs and the full black glass oven doors were really something. Simple yet elegant design. I think they were one of the best ranges to cook on. When White took over Westinghouse in...

    Today's Dishwasher POD

It's interesting because our machine was double wash and triple rinse just a few years later.

    Today's Dishwasher POD

I grew up with a slightly newer version of this model. It performed exceedingly well and was easy to load once you got the hang of it. Plates on the bottom and glasses in the upper racks. Pots upper facing down so you didn't block the spray from below. It was very quiet washing but much...

Household appliances used in commercial buildings and vice versa

O The commercial kitchen I work in has a Garland six burner, two oven and flat top griddle. The heat produced from the gas burners is unreal. Much hotter I believe than anything you'd find in a domestic model. You have to really watch that the flame matches the pot size or "sting" of the...
