As long as they're between machines of the same speed (single-speed or 2-speed), then the motors should be absolutely interchangeable. However, a 2-speed motor cannot go into a 1-speed machine or vice-versa. This is true for just about all Maytags made from 1956 onwards until the buyout I think.

    Calling Vintage Maytag Experts

If it were me This looks beyond surgery to me. The first thing I thought upon seeing your picture was "oof." You can definitely continue to use it for now, but once it quits, I don't think it will be an easy repair. A new agitator shaft will most definitely be necessary. I'd say it's almost...

Maytag Machines After Whirlpool Buyout - What Remained?

I want to say somewhere around the late 2000s/early 10s they were making some machines that looked like modern versions of the iconic late 60s/70s center-dial ones that became synonymous with the name "Maytag." Don't ask me the models, but they had gold trim like the machines of 75-80, the big...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

IMO, The beginning of the end was 1989/90 when they switched from the long-stroke Pitman transmission to the short-stroke orbital one. That marked the first major "cheapening" of the machines. Although these were still really decent machines up until the late 90s or so. Just not quite the...

And here’s a picture of everyone on the trailer, ready to commence the move.

Update on my Maytags + what’s next

My plans to replace the failing (transmission) A506 with a 512 did not work out, and I have left the family house in MA where the machines were located. The now 50-year-old 107 is still running like a top, though. Got them both (and my Elux vacs — my other favorite thing) moved into storage for...

Almost 40-year-old Maytag A506 “slowing down…” keep repairing or time to retire?

I have felt my 1985 A506 beginning to slow down for a little while now. I changed the belts last year, and just very recently, thanks to Eugene at Lorain with his virtual service calls, tipped it upside down to get the oil into the transmission to help it agitate better. This seemed to work, but...

    Holy turquoise!

WHAT A FIND! I can only imagine your reaction when you walked down there and saw that thing. That is museum-worthy, and the turquoise...just perfection. My grandmother did estate sales in NorthJersey for many years before retiring at the start of COVID, so this makes me think of her. I can...

Which decade was Maytag’s very finest?

    50s? 60s? 70s? 80s? 90s? Or other?

Another summer in the books with my beautiful old girls

    @gsd-dan Unfortunately I can’t - it’s my mom’s place and she doesn’t want them.

Another summer in the books with my beautiful old girls

Leaving the family home in Massachusetts (where I live in the summer and part-time otherwise), and where my 2 Maytags are; tomorrow I head back to Virginia for the fall. Will miss washing with these beauties, but looking forward to doing it again. 1975 A107 and 1985 A506.

    Vintage Maytag Fans

Thanks for the heads up. I should order a couple of them from Lorain, hopefully they might have some in stock still.

    Maytag hierarchy question

I think it’s a.so worth noting that For the washers, they seemed to prioritize tub size over speeds/other options when determining the model numbers. For instance, the 208 is a small tub, 2-speed machine; while the 308 is a big tub, 1-speed.

    Maytag hierarchy question

@circlew You're correct actually! I meant to say the 06/07 series. I think the 07 was introduced around 71 or 72, when the knob changed from chrome to crystal. It started out as just 06 in 66, then 06/07, then 07/08. The one model that stayed 06 the whole run of the 66-80 generation was the BOL...

An Old Maytag’s Second Shot At Life

Looks amazing Henry! This machine is truly immaculate for being 54 years old, and I have no doubt it couldn't have gone to a better home than you.
