Tell us about your collection
Don't really have any "collectable" major appliances but I'm completely open to the prospect of purchasing some interesting machines. I thoroughly enjoy and an amazed by those who have amassed a wide selection of models spanning several decades.
What are your dream machines yet to be found?
I'd love to get ahold of a Maytag wringer from the mid 60s (in mint condition) like the model my next door neighbor, Dorothy Winkler, used.
What are your earliest and favorite appliance memories?
The laundry goddess of the entire neighborhood lived next door to us when I was growing up. On wash day, she (Dorothy) had 7 very long clothes lines in her backyard filled with freshly laundered "everything" by 6 am. I remember it really pissed off my mom!! But Dorothy was amazing. She had 5 sons and one daughter that collectively generated a phenomenal amount of laundry. She was a wringer purist and firmly believed automatic washers just couldn't compete. Of course, my mom was a very proud automatic washer women, a conviction that kept my dad intimately involved since her machine always seemed to be breaking down. It was amazing how fast my dad could slip off the outer case and begin tearing it apart.
What is the history of appliances you have owned?
Back in my mid 20s, I was given an electric stove identical to the model used on the set of Bewitched. Also had a yellow, late 50s GE frig with a pink interior, curved swivel shelves back lit with long vertal light panels - a spectacular presentation for its day. First washer/dryer set was a Sears Kenmore from the early 70s I purchased for $200 - worked very well, incredible machines. Just parted with a heavy duty set of Maytags from the late 80s.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any major appliances?
I've never really worked on a major appliance but I've dismantled many small appliances, especially vacuums,
