1973 KDS 17 makes terrible squeal when filling

So we replaced the original double fill valve with a new WP single solenoid replacement valve. The squealing stopped, but the dishwasher doesn't seem to operate nearly as well. We notice that there is always dishwasher detergent residue in the dispenser cups and we often find dishes that...

1973 KDS 17 makes terrible squeal when filling

Thank you everyone for your advice. My partner purchased the replacement valve and installed it, and the squealing has stopped! Hoping that nothing that else will go wrong, and that the machine will continue to perform for many more years.

1973 KDS 17 makes terrible squeal when filling

Repairman said it is coming from a valve and can't be fixed. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will it cause the machine to fail? My only option to keep peace in the home is to purchase a brand new dishwasher, and they don't make 'em like they used to. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions for my KDS-17 dishwasher!

I appreciate all the suggestions from Forum members in pointing me in the right directions to find replacement parts for my 1972 KDS-17 Kitchen Aid/Hobart dishwasher. I was able to locate a brand new program switch actuator on EBay through PFE Electronics and I purchased a brand-new-in-the-box...

Vintage Hobart/Kitchen Aid dishwashers available on EBay

While searching EBay for a discontinued part for my KDS-17 dishwasher, I ran across "pfesales". They have about 20 refurbished Hobart dishwashers for sale on EBay. I purchased the parts I need from them. I was told that they bought their inventory from another seller and they are posting...

    KDS-17 Dishwasher

For Stevet I found the part I need on EBay but want to thank you for responding to my posts. I'd be interested in the owner's manual you said you had but don't know how to contact you outside this Forum.

    KDS-17 Dishwasher

KDS parts available on EBay thru pfesales Reading another post gave me the idea of looking on EBay. A new Reset Lever for my machine is available from pfesales. "New Kitchen Aid D.W.Part #108985 or 4166889 Reset Lever" They also have the spacer, Part #108984. Now I have to figure out if the...

    KDS-17 Dishwasher

Thank you so much for responding! I'm not Kate...and I'm not sure if that is the part I need...The reason I don't know if it's the same is because when mine broke last year, the repairman screwed a plastic piece from a different machine onto my broken piece so it would work. From what I...

    KDS-17 Dishwasher

Does anyone have info or know how to find a parts diagram of the KDS-17 control panel? I'm a gal trying to figure out what part I need and if it's available. I haven't been able to find a diagram or owner's manual online. The plastic timer reset switch has broken off and was lying inside the...

KitchenAid KDS 17 Superba by Hobart dishwasher

Thanks. I just looked at my repair bill again and the plastic part I need is the KDS-17 Program Switch Actuator. I know later models don't work because the repairman tried. Whether the KD-16 part would fit - ? I don't know.

KitchenAid KDS 17 Superba by Hobart dishwasher

Oh - I just reread the message from Steve regarding his buddy's timer. I don't have the part number from my machine, just what Midwest Timer said their part number is. Would it be the same?

KitchenAid KDS 17 Superba by Hobart dishwasher

Thank you so much for all the help! I took the advice to contact Midwest Timer and they emailed that they have a new replacement timer available for my machine. They said it is part #4161474. So hopefully that will work and is one issue resolved! Since I'm a gal and will probably need to call...

KitchenAid KDS 17 Superba by Hobart dishwasher

Thank you! The repairman couldn't praise these old dishwashers enough. I knew I liked it, but I didn't realize just how well-built they are. I guess it makes "business sense" that they don't manufacture the parts any more; one would never need to buy a new dishwasher.

KitchenAid KDS 17 Superba by Hobart dishwasher

One of these came with our house when we moved in 25 years ago. It is original to the house (1973). It is in need of a couple of parts and no one seems to have them anymore. It is an awesome machine and I don't want to lose it! (1) the plastic piece that resets the program when you open the...
