Architect series

Looks like a 23 Architect series Imperial(?) Model. The design was such as to have the control panels of that line blend in with the standard drawer height of approx 6 inches. As a 23 series, it would have had the whirlpool power module pump system in it. I almost want to say it might also be a 22 Architect series, but not sure if they had them in the 22 series. If it is a 22 series, it would have the Hobart designed pump system. Can anyone verify that for me and this person?

Either way, i would want to see it first as many of these machines seemed to lack the overall quality of materials that the earlier machines had. The racks seemed to fall apart faster and the porcelain was really thin and easily chipped. Just my opinion. I think that the 22's were the last of the really heavier built units.

I think another feature that distinguishes the 23 series from previous ones is the full-width utensil basket.  Earlier models had smaller ones with scalloped handles and no integrated cage for small items.

23 Series KA DWs

Most 23s did not have plastic control panels, in fact they had very heavy dia-cast metal panels. One of the nice things about the architectural models with the 6" high control panels was that your custom wood panels from your old worn out KD 16-17 DW would fit these new taller tub machines.

WP greatly improved he racks and upper rack wheels durability in the 23 series over the earlier Hobart design and construction. On the upper adjustable racks the flat vinyl coated side rails were changed to SS because this area often had problems with the vinal coating splitting along the top and bottom of the rail and then would rust badly. WP also beefed up and enlarged the tank mounted wheels for the top rack as the original Hobart design had a lot of problems with not only broken wheels but you also had to be very careful when the rack was fully loaded to pull and push it only from the center. This is common sense to most of us but many customers just grab the corner of a top DW rack and shove it in or pull it out and the original KA rack often had problems with broken wheels when this was done.

I had a KUDI-23, bought in '95. A friend of mine worked in Contractor Sales at NE Furn. Mart and I think I paid less for the KA than a comparable Maytag at the time - bulk buying power! It was a great dishwasher, WP did make some improvements as John mentioned - they also turned the detergent dispenser 180 degrees so the bi-metal actuators were above any possible water leaks coming from the dispenser cover stems.

Sure-Temp vs. Sure-Clean

I noticed that on the Superba models they refer to the Automatic Water Heating as SureTemp where on the other models it is referred to as SureClean. Was this just marketing or was the water heating done slightly differently on the different models? I always thought it was the same.
