Introduction, Hello! Howdy! How are you?

Well Mike, those 50 radios in my home are nothing compared to the countless thousands of radios, phonos, tape decks, car radios, and stereos that I restored for customers over the decades, among other things at the repair shop.

Introduction, Hello! Howdy! How are you?

John, my home's got quite a collection of vintage too. About 50 vintage radios, some transistor, other tube types from as far back as early 1950s. - all restored to "like new" by me. And I also have one vintage phone, a 1970s white touch-tone Princess, which is used quite a bit. I even have it...

Whirlpool Bathtubs & Jetted Showers Are A Fad

I'm still content with the "Old School" way of taking a shower. Turn on the hot/cold faucets, wait till they stabilize at the lukewarm temp I desire, then hop in... naked, of course. 😄

Introduction, Hello! Howdy! How are you?

Ya got THAT right! And as I DO of course have some "modern" stuff in the house, there are the times when I enjoy "going back in time" with some of my vintage things... I love music, so... A little bit of Pink Floyd, or Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra even.

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

No, it's not about paranoia in this case. As Eddie mentioned about society's complacency, it has made it easy for corporations and government to gain power, manipulate, mandate, and seduce the public into almost anything they want. Mike, you're "I'm well over the hill and will be gone hopefully...

i can no longer find ordinary incandescent chandelier bulbs, gotta go with leds

The LED bulbs in my living room don't appear to be any different than when I used 60 watt bulbs in them. I can't tell the difference. - but my electric bill can!

    Time For a New Furnace

I guess that I'll hang onto that 1970's American Standard toilet in the basement powder room - it's still flushing like a charm.

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

This is why I've mentioned to friends, family, and of course online, about the control and conditioning of society, along with the dependency of "devices" which have a tendency to become obsessions, addictions. - and criminal abuse. The results point to corporate greed, at the expense of...

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

I heard on the tv news tonight that several corporations are gearing up to employ A.I. systems, which they say will cost thousands of employees their jobs. Amazon is one of them, planning to let go thousands from it's coporation. Microsoft, Apple, and other tech corporations were also listed...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

I've never had an issue with my A482 machine damaging my clothes, or anything put inside it. And of course, I don't stuff it overfilled either, and use the water level for the load that allows plenty of movement and turnover. As for the agitator, it don't see anything sharp on the fins that...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

Then how come the orbital has such a short stroke? Seems to me that would hinder turnover due to lack of agitation.

Whirlpool Bathtubs & Jetted Showers Are A Fad

I'm bombarded continually with TV ads about "walk in tubs" and deluxe shower remodeling. I hit the Mute button on the tv remote for the duration of all annoying commercials. - including those endless drug commercials, among others. As for me, my bathroom is a classic typical bathroom, with a...

i can no longer find ordinary incandescent chandelier bulbs, gotta go with leds

I've only got a few fixtures with incandescent bulbs in them, and they're rarely used. The rest of the house is all LED now for decades, and they all still work just fine.

i can no longer find ordinary incandescent chandelier bulbs, gotta go with leds

Matt, not meaning to be one of those annoying internet "grammer natzi's", but Philips is the correct spelling with one "L"... LOL!

    Time For a New Furnace

I have to say, my 2002 Crown "Aruba" gas boiler is as I mentioned previously in post #7 has been great all these years. And the wall mounted old 1970s Westinghouse 24,000 BTU was a power-hungry animal that cooled the downstairs way too much, feeling like I walked into a WAWA store, and gave me...

    Time For a New Furnace

Being overly obsessed about something that is natural for humans to do creates problems and unrest of others. Discussions over the internet are not different from a couple of guys sitting on the back porch, talking. In fact, if several in a group become the type to regularly criticize or put...

    Time For a New Furnace

When in person with several people, say, at a dinner party, it's natural to wander with topics, because sometimes things come to mind that cause another to bring up perhaps a similar subject. It's Human Nature, not unusual or purposly disruptive. It's the way humans are.

i can no longer find ordinary incandescent chandelier bulbs, gotta go with leds

Indeed true, Mike! I've found that sticking with GE, Philips, or Sylvania last forever. The Philips LED's are the best choice - I've had one lamp on constantly for 15 years now! And the garden "Malibu" lighting's got Philips 12V bulbs in it for almost 2 decades. - still going strong. Stay away...

i can no longer find ordinary incandescent chandelier bulbs, gotta go with leds

You're lucky with that fixture. In my dining room I've got a 12-light fixture similar to yours, still using incandescent bulbs. One of these days I'll pick up a dozen LEDs for it, also dimmable.

    Time For a New Furnace

Fasco motors are used in a lot of products, including those bathroom ceiling ventilators. The key to insuring long term reliability is to occasionally (yearly) check them for lubrication and add a few drops of 30 weight oil to the shaft bearing, if it's a sleeve bearing. Because that end of the...
