    Who Makes These Vacuums?

If the motor was stalled, it would simply blow the house circuit breaker. Those motors when running drew around 6 amps.

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

Oh, but Chet, they DO have a practical use in appliances! For the manufacturers! A big ole weak spot in design, prone to failure, to boost sales revenue.

The History of the Introduction of the Automatics thru Newspapers

Pierce-Phelps used to have a huge warehouse here for decades. I could order parts on the phone from them and have them mailed to me. Even tiny parts for record changers. They dealt with almost any product that you can imagine. Sadly, those days are long gone.

    Who Makes These Vacuums?

From what I remember, the fan is on a round motor shaft, made of high strength plastic, and held by a threaded nut. So the fan blades would break off if solid objects hit it. And replacement is cheap and easy as replacing the belt, which lasts a long time if used for normal dirt. Early Eureka's...

Thank you. Since I'm an East Coast Conservative, I'll make a note of it.

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

The social disease of WiFi has been spread as a so-called "convenience" among the masses to suppliment the "wireless" trend which first started decades ago when the first "cordless" telephones and remote control tv's were available. It's basically a Marketing tool that corporations know can...

    Who Makes These Vacuums?

Personally, the color of a vacuum doesn't make a difference to me. It's not something that I use to decorate the home with. It's used to clean up the house and stored in a closet afterwords. The important thing to me is the build quality, performance and the reliabiility.

Don't let the Millenial crowd hear you say that! 😄

    Who Makes These Vacuums?

My two Eureka uprights are not exactly quiet either, but I consider that the noise is only a temprary thing to deal with, besides, they're built like tanks. I also have a newer Hoover WindTunnel "steerable" upright "bagless" instead of a bag. - and it's got great suction and is quite a bit...

    Throwing away food

Indeed, the internet with all it's so-called wonders, cannot replace actual live conversations. Nor can it also convey when a person jokes around with another. Me?... I'm a jokester that my friends all know all too well. I look at it this way, the way the world is these days, with the drama...

I meant that as a humorous reply Eddie. ;)

    Who Makes These Vacuums?

Oreck is mediocre. When I briefly worked for Eureka in 1989, we did acomparison testing over various machines. The Oreck fell short of having the power for deep rug cleaning. The Eureka uprights were able to hit the "100" mark in water lift testing. Oreck only hit "60".

    Who Makes These Vacuums?

I'm still using my Eureka's, because they never fail to get the job done. Unless, of course, the beater belt snaps. Workhorses they are.

Hmm.... Eddie, that last sentence makes me think of a LAZY old coot. 😄

I tend to assume that it's because of shipping charges, particularly since long distance trucking is involved.

    GE Permatuf

My Kitchenaid KDC-19 dishwasher had a small leak too, located underneath where the hose for the upper spray arm connects to the pump housing. Apparently, the fitting is press-fitted to the pump housing and I suppose through the years the rubber connector my have shrunk due to aging. Removing the...

Tossing Food Away! Tsk Tsk! you guys are terrible! 😮 Do you know that there are starving children in 3rd world countries that would love to have a moldy sliver of bread, or a crusty leaf of old lettuce? Do mankind a favor and donate just $19 a month, only 63 cents a day, to help feed the...

The History of the Introduction of the Automatics thru Newspapers

Reading that newspaper article from June 16, 1949, about Maytag, it caught my attention about the time duration and process mentioned for a wash load. It's amusing to note that my 1987 A482 machine's normal cycle is the same! Because it's about 30ish minutes to do the exact same process. I...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-two

Sorry to hear about your issues with the Farberware Percs. They must had had a bad batch of them for a while. It does happen at times. My 4-cup "Superfast" which cost me a measily $7 hasn't given me any problems. And I've had it for about 10 years.
