    1960's Nutone Fan

I second the comment on Ace Hardware. See if you can gently pry out the old one; many of these are friction-fit. Measure the hole diameter and you're off to the races!

The return of a trusty old friend!

Congrats on bringing her back home! Looks like some new chips in the top porcelain? I reached out to Jeff at Independent Porcelain a couple months ago regarding sunny yellow and unfortunately he says he no longer supports that color. I guess a search for a replacement top might be the only...

    Youngstown Kitchen's Dishwasher

I sure wish I was closer! (12 hour drive from IA) Just last week I picked up the twin to that 30" Youngstown. Unfortunately, mine has some porcelain damage inside the door near the hinges. Between the two I bet I could make one nice running unit.

    Who made the “deepfreeze”?

That reminds me...Swestoyz picked up one of the later ones like in the top pic, though it was still pre-Amana. Built like a tank, beautiful chrome, and a temp signal light. I believe he ended up parting it out.

    Who made the “deepfreeze”?

Yessir, Motor Products Corp. And still running like a Swiss watch. I know Travis has the double barrel version. While a cylinder is tough to stock, you end up with essentially 100% cold-coverage.

    Mailboxes vs slots

Talking with a friend recently who lives in Germany, he was curious what the little red 'flags' were on our mailboxes. Apparently, household mail pickup is unheard of there.

Living dangerously in a Wonder Kitchen

On first blush it looks a bit scary, but the water's in the backsplash, the sink is continuously formed into the countertop, and the countertop is (well, is designed to be) grounded. I think you'd have to work pretty hard to get water into that load center. An old ungrounded fridge, or vintage...

    1977(?) RR-8 Radarange

The RR-8/8A's are about as sophisticated as you can get for an analog unit. The Cookmatic slider can be adjusted on the fly and the temp control allows for probe cook & hold. Amana had also learned a few lessons from the RR-7 so these tend to be pretty robust. Definitely worth $50.

    Frigidaire Range Handle Trim Wanted

My '58 took a tumble today that has me sick to my stomach. Damage is limited to the doors but those aren't exactly growing on trees. Next best thing would be replacement aluminum handle trim for this 40". Anyone have a lead on a pair? The deep well lid is also a write-off. Any leads appreciated!

GE Retro microwave oven combo, works great - $120 (san jose south)

Wow, this has got to be rare these days, especially that clean. I remember the countertop version of that GE MWO as a kid, and recall the timers being a little flaky. Haven't seen one in years.

Charcoal Frigidaire Imperial Stove $500 (Tucker, GA)

What's with the rollout storage on the left? I thought all of these 40" Frig models were double-ovens?

Beautiful Amana RR-2 Available in Miami

I was contacted by an older lady replacing her stove with a unit that has an over-the-range MWO, so she no longer has a use for her RR-2 Radarange. This unit is available in the Miami, FL area. Contact me if interested and I'll put you in touch.

Hamilton Gas Dryer - Lighted Console - $30 (Carroll, IA)

Definitely cool! Too bad it's gas or I'd be hitting the road....

POD 6-09-19 GE Empress 30 dishwasher

In the early 00's I went to an estate sale locally full of vintage goodies, and there in the kitchen was one of these 30" GEs in Woodtone Brown. If I had known the rarity of it at the time I would have followed up after the house sold. A couple years later curiosity got the best of me but try...

    Pulse dialing

I run an OOMA VOIP here (with ring-through from my cell number). Plugged into the OOMA is my trusty Panasonic PBX that converts any rotary phone to touchtone on the fly, and has the current to drive a load of vintage phones. Bonus is you can call between any phone on the property with 2-digit...

    Why Are RV’s So Ugly?

Yep, Forest River quality...and unlike the auto industry, no real governing agency or quality standards that need to be met. The Airflyte was a pet project the Shasta CEO had done in secret in order to get approval from the board. For production quantities, corners were cut to control cost...

    Why Are RV’s So Ugly?

Shasta Airflyte We just got back from a long weekend of camping one state over, and aside from a couple of pop-ups and a Scamp, we had one of the smallest travel trailers in the whole state park. It was like some sort of contest to see who could pull the biggest 5th wheel with the biggest...

    Why Are RV’s So Ugly?

If I were in the market for a motorhome, I'd have to go with a vintage GMC. Truly a ground-up, no-compromise design. And there's quite the aftermarket scene for the FWD drivetrain including EFI and OD-ratio chain setups for the THM-425 trans. Plus no godawful graphics and leaky bump-outs...
