I always loved the look of those machines under a countertop. My favorite is the GE profile version with the color logic controls.

We have all braided hoses, and the house (new construction) came with hammer arrestors on the lines for the washer, dishwasher, and ice maker. No banging pipes so far.

My parents have this model in black and it's pretty great. The self-cleaning hasn't worked on either oven in years but otherwise they work like new. The micro-convection-bake feature is the best way to reheat pizza I've found.

Throwing just one test swatch in a machine and running it wouldn't be scientifically rigorous. Reviewed.com, for example, uses an 8 pound test load in all of its washer tests. The video in this link seems to indicate they add clean towels as the majority of the test load...
