    Iterations of the Waring Blendor

In 1972 I bought a Waring Blendor like the one in photos 3&4 of the OP thats in the middle of the three next to the gray plastic bottle. I paid $5.00 at the Salvation Army Thrift Store for this blendor and used it until 1987 when I sold it in a garage sale that David and I had in order to amass...

    Thor Automagic!

I can recall watching an episode of “Life With Elizabeth” Betty White’s first TV series in about 1955 in which her husband, I think his name was Brad had monkeyed around with their washing machine to also make it a dishwasher, because Elizabeth wanted a DW. They loaded it up with their dishes...

    vintage telephones on moderm line

Ralph, As long as we’ve had area codes we’ve had to dial the area code to direct dial a number in another area code. My area code is 707, if you wanted to make a call to say Marin County which is area code 415 you’ve always had to dial at least the 415 area code first. The need to dial “1”...

    vintage telephones on moderm line

We’ve had mandatory 10 digit dialing here for two or more years now. When I first moved to Petaluma, Calif. in 1970 all the prefixes in Petaluma were either 762 or 763 for the old POrter exchange. To make a local call then you only had to dial the last 5 digit's. So if I was calling the...

    vintage telephones on moderm line

We got rid of At&T POTS over 10 years ago. I did the installation and back fed the VOIP thru the wall jack for the POTS jack near the gateway and disconnected the POTS line in the At&T service box on the outside of the house. This worked great until about six years ago and then the phones...

Is this a good model Speed Queen to buy used?

Re: Yellowed plastic knobs, I believe that I one read somewhere that applying hydrogen peroxide to yellowed plastic you could get rid of some or all of the yellowing. It’s a cheap, easy fix to try and shouldn’t harm the plastic in any way. Eddie

Is this a good model Speed Queen to buy used?

If I were going to have a Speed Queen FL this would be one of the models that would appeal to me. I like the old school analog controls, can’t tell from the photo but I believe this model also has a timer control for the cycles rather than electronic and that would also be a plus for me...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Twenty-nine

When I make a cocoanut cake I frost it with American buttercream frosting flavored with vanilla and I fold about 3/4 to 1 cup of finely chopped cocoanut into the frosting, then lightly sprinkle shredded cocoanut on the top. This way you get the taste of cocoanut in every single bite without...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Twenty-nine

“Orth” stands for “Orthophonic sound” a term coined by RCA in the early 20’s for the superior sound reproduction from their Victrola’s and records. I don’t know what Lon and S.Fil stand for. Eddie https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Orthophonic_Victrola

Let's talk jeans. Love them or hate them?

I’ve been wearing Levi’s since I was a toddler. I can still see my Dad on his knees in front of me rolling up the cuffs on my stiff, new unwashed blue Levi’s with a Chesterfield hanging off of his lip. Mine and my little brother’s legs were so short that Dad had to cut some of the bottom of...

Friend Called.. They got a new Maytag TL Washer

For those concerned about the turnover in the Amana and Roper machines it is just like the TL’s of yore, that is provided you use the Deep Fill option or Bulky cycle. I’ve washed kingsized comforters, bedspreads and blankets and they all turned over just like any old fashioned TL. Using Auto...

Friend Called.. They got a new Maytag TL Washer

The Amana NTW4516FW 3.5 cu ft still has the dual action agitator. The 3.8 cu ft NTW4519FW is the model that has the stupid wash plate and pole. I’ve got the Roper “sister ship” RTW 4516FW2 and have used it for 6 trouble free years. I think that Magic Clean’s friend will be very happy with her...

Could I live without my Stand-Up Mixer?

I put my Kitchenaid Stand mixer back in the cabinet above our refrigerator this afternoon. The only thing that I really had been using it for was to knead bread dough. Now that I’ve rediscovered the pleasure of kneading yeast dough by hand and the superior quality of the finished bread I...

Could I live without my Stand-Up Mixer?

I paid $7.19 for a doz eggs on Monday at Target, to me that’s outta sight. They were $7.49 a week ago and $7.99 two weeks ago. So they’re going down, but still too high. We pay much higher prices in California than in most of the rest of the country. Eddie

Could I live without my Stand-Up Mixer?

Latest Update to My Bread Baking Routine With the price of eggs literally outta site last month I began tweaking my master bread recipe to eliminate eggs. I also had been watching several YT videos about making bread dough without using a mixer and kneading by hand instead. Everything I...

Whirlpool WTW4816FW3: Bad control board and Lowes warranty issues

Chet, my Shredmore was a 2000 model and it was a two speed. Slow wash was too slow, nothing really moved around at all, and fast was too fast and it literally tore the sh*t outta the clothes. On my Roper the Normal/Regular cycle does have tempered hot water washes and spray rinse. But should...
