Maytag Dependable Care won't spin - Bad Tub Bearing?

try to clean that up with emery cloth and then paint I'd start looking for new a new agitator shaft. Sanding and painting isn't a good long term fix, it will just be a matter of time before the lip seal starts leaking again. Not worth the risk with price and availability of new stem kits these...

Maytag Dependable Care won't spin - Bad Tub Bearing?

from some third party manufacturer I haven't seen any aftermarket Maytag tub bearings yet, they all seem to be genuine OEM either Whirlpool or NOS Maytag. Stem kits are another story. As for the oil on the box I wouldn't be too concerned, when installing it should be lubed with Zoom Spout...

without having to resort to the sledgehammer A cutoff wheel is another option if you're careful. You should start using 20 Mule Team Borax to soften up the wash water and boost the detergent...

Maytag Dependable Care won't spin - Bad Tub Bearing?

but it's not very easy to rotate. Sounds like the tub bearing could be binding, it should turn relatively easy. Another cause could be the motor slides hanging up and putting too much tension on the belt. That is easy enough to check. My A712 burned a belt and the tub bearing was making noise...

    Maytag washer question

Here's a link to the Whirlpool; That WP looks rough, no shots of the tub and pricey considering the condition.

    Maytag washer question

Looks decent, tub still has a nice gloss so it probably wasn't used with hard water. I'd offer $100, you'd be getting a good deal, provided you pop off the front panel and it looks okay inside as well, (no evidence of leaks or rust). Clean it up, lube the damper pads and put it into service...

    Maytag washer question

price, while not exactly a give-away, Pretty skimpy on the details. How much is the seller asking and exactly what is the condition inside and out? $100-150 and in very good condition, go for it. ( i.e. no rust, damage or signs of heavy use). $200+ and anything less than very good to...

Incandescent light bulb BAN goes into effect next week

Did someone say THREE-WAY bulb? Nice table lamp. Looks like a vintage Stiffle, the heavy brass type that can be used as weapons against intruders. I bought a couple of those at the estate sale where I loaded up on the three-way incandescents.

Undo lateral stress on the lower trans. Is he right? Never heard that one before. The o-ring is common known failure point in the older transmission and was redesigned with a lip seal in later models. if the motor rollers were excessively binding you'd know it with the belt burning up or...

'70 Maytag A806 oil leak - What do I do next? Please help

Now to find that pesky brake wrench. The brake doesn't need to be removed to take the trans out for service. You've got enough work already, don't fix things that aren't broken and unlikely to fail.

I assume I have to clean out all of the old oil Yes, and it will have the consistence of molasses, even using gasoline for a solvent it takes a while to clean it all out and you need to refill with a yellow metal safe GL-4 oil like Sta-Lub: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/SL_SL24229

should I just replace the brake assembly and bearing Maytag brake assemblies rarely fail. Aside from adding a tablespoon of trans oil to the brake package I'd leave those items alone.

'70 Maytag A806 oil leak - What do I do next? Please help

Are there threads here I can research The lower trans o-ring needs to be replaced to stop the leak so the trans must be removed and disassembled, plus the machine will agitate better with fresh trans oil. Very doable for a motivated DYI'er. Here is a very meticulous thread on rebuilding a...
