    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-four

That looks so good! I haven't made that pie in many years.

Trying to identify old GE washer

That's an interesting looking machine. Based on the design, I'd say it was made around 1930-1935.

Inglis TO-41001 Commercial Belt Drive Rebuild -A few questions-

John, I certainly understand why they used a back opening lid in a commercial machine, but why the Kenmore lid rather than the standard Whirlpool lid, which is normally used?

    Modern Living: Part Seventeen

We had that Congowall in the basement bathroom for several years. It had been installed when the house was built in 1952. By the late 60s it looked like crap, so my dad put up some cheap paneling, which wasn't much better. That little bathroom is gone now, as that is where the new stairwell is.

    Burgers and Fries

I went to a picnic tonight, but no hamburgers, just brats, metts, and turkey sausage. We had it at a shelter in the park we hike in frequently. Unfortunately we had to contend with two dogs - Pit Bulls - that were hanging around the picnic area. They weren't too bad at first, but they tried to...

What year seems to be this hotpoint washer and dryer

That washer was most likely made between 1973 and 1976. Hotpoint washers began being made at GE Louisville in 1973, and the top changed to the same as GE around 1977.

Inglis TO-41001 Commercial Belt Drive Rebuild -A few questions-

It looks like they used a Kenmore lid, but hinged at the rear like a regular Whirlpool model. What was the reason for doing that?

WP Dishwasher Production - Findlay OH - 16mm Film

I've been past that factory many times going to or coming back from my sister's place - it's gigantic. She lives about 15-20 minutes away, and knows several people who work there, as well as some that work at the Clyde washer plant.

    Burgers and Fries

"never leave unattended" That's unfortunately what I did. Took out the fries that were done, left the rest to cook. Saw my neighbor girl Carol on her porch, and went over to talk to her about the pool. She saw smoke coming out the kitchen window, and by the time we got back, the pan of grease...

    Burgers and Fries

I rarely make hamburgers at home, and only when I cook out on the charcoal grill. I don't eat HB's very often due to health issues. If I make French fries at home, it's in the oven. The last time I deep fried them was in July 1973. I remember that because they caught fire, and did over $5000. in...

    Electric mowers

We had a Sunbeam electric mower back in the late 1960s. If I remember right, it was given to us by my dad's uncle, who had thought he might like it for mowing his small yard. We used it for two or three years, but it was narrow, and took a long time to do this large yard. More than once I ran...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

I told my neighbor the other day that my generation should have only had half as many kids as they did, and those kids should have only had one fourth as many as they did. She agrees. That said, there are many good young people. A young lady that has been one of the managers at a Cracker Barrel...

HOW IN HELL CAN I CLEAN A MAYTAG FILTER OUT?

After my mom passed away, I neglected to clean the filter in the Maytag A207 washer. Needless to say, it got pretty gunked up, and the clothes were coming out linty. I took it out and scrubbed with a brush, which helped a little. I decided to soak it in CLR for a while, which after rinsing and...

    Test driving a '65 Mustang in 1985

Friends of the family in Dearborn, MI got one of the first Mustangs in 1964. It was a bronze color convertible. The husband was very high up in the Ford Motor Co., and got it for his wife Elizabeth. By the late 1980s, it was getting in kind of rough shape. The husband had the car totally...

AOL ending dial-up internet September 30.

I had AOL dial up for the first few years I had a computer. More often than not, the numbers that were flat rate local calls were busy. Therefore, I had to use numbers that were local measured service, which I could run up a bill of several dollars each time. Then I got Time-Warner Cable, which...

Wandered through Menard's---interesting private label selection

I have noticed that the Loveland store doesn't have as nice of kitchen department as the one in Evendale, which is a larger two floor building. Medallion is a Cabinetworks Group brand, which also owns Kraft Maid, Yorktown, and several other brands. We sold them when I was working at a plumbing...

Wandered through Menard's---interesting private label selection

Jamie, that may be specific to the store location you were in. The Cincinnati area stores have nice kitchen displays, with good semi-custom cabinet lines available, such as Medallion, and Cardell. Findlay OH also had a nice kitchen department when I was there a couple years ago.

Inglis Refrigerator Engineering - 16mm Film

I like a porcelain enamel liner better than plastic, as it doesn't absorb odors. My 1997 Amana still smells like pickle juice after it was spilled back around 2006. I've cleaned it numerous times, and tried all sorts of ways to eliminate it, but nothing seems to work.

Inglis Refrigerator Engineering - 16mm Film

For a very good reason. They have been associated with Whirlpool since becoming a licensee of their predecessor, 1900 Corporation, in 1946. Later Whirlpool acquired full ownership of Inglis.
