sears and roebuck wringer washer 110 53230 motor

With inflation, here's the price today... Yes, Tim (wayupnorth), I had the "Four Star" model, but I donated it to a museum in Bremerton, Washington. Interesting to see how much these machines would cost in today's dollars!

Just got 2 really nice Maytags, newbie advice please

Paint??? First off - that is quite a find, getting two at once! Hope you'll enjoy using them as much as a lot of us do! Quote: I've seen somewhere where someone painted that plate under the lint trap so it won't rust. Any idea what type of paint that is? Answer: the "plate" you see is...

    Maytagringer washers

The "2" represents models made after WW2 ended and Maytag went back into production of washing machines. During the war effort, all appliance production was halted in favor of producing parts for the military. The "L" represents "Electric", whereas "M" represents the gasoline "Multi-motor".

August 1969 ... Hello Mindy, I checked my reference manual and it appears your machine was built in August 1969. Hope you keep it and enjoy, or at least find another appreciative buyer! -Brad

POD 10.21.19: Maytag "Savasuds" Outboard Suds Saving System

Good info! Thanks Tom! Since I'm mainly a wringer washer fan, I did not know that about Maytag and the transition to automatics.

POD 10.21.19: Maytag "Savasuds" Outboard Suds Saving System

Tom hates Maytag! At least, that's what I gather from the comments! LOL. Martin - thanks for including that video! I'm always fascinated by the way a concept evolves with the engineers going through trial-and-error phases. That old Whirlpool is a good-lookin' machine (for an automatic! LOL)...

    Westinghouse washing machine 1940’s???

Thanks for sharing all this! I really enjoyed this dialogue as well as the YouTube vids! Very cool to see an unusual wringer washer that is functional with minimal restoration effort. Hope you enjoy using it for a long time - and if you ever tire of it, hit me up!

    Westinghouse washing machine 1940’s???

Pre-set tension... I see now. It appears to be similar to a Maytag in that it has pre-set tension. You may have seen on other wringer types (such as that manufactured by Lovell for several different washer manufacturers) that the side lever is a clamp and on the top is a screw that adjusts the...

    Westinghouse washing machine 1940’s???

Tension adjustment... Hey there, Jason, Rich (golittlesport) makes a good point - I'm originally from southern Alberta (Canada) and I remember my grandparents had discarded their old gasoline-driven Westinghouse wringer from the 1940s. It sat in the granary and my grandfather used it to hold...

    Westinghouse washing machine 1940’s???

The new drain hose ... Hey Jason ... I can't quite understand the hose arrangement. It looks like it comes up through the inside and then I see a curved nozzle going into the tub. Can you show pics of that with an explanation please? Looks like you've got a keeper there! I'm a little envious...

    Westinghouse washing machine 1940’s???

Tension adjustment - Jason, the gizmo on top would typically be the tension release bar, with the pressure applied through the lever/handle on the side. Does it increase the pressure when you rotate that handle on the side? I'll be interested in hearing where the on/off control is located for...

    Westinghouse washing machine 1940’s???

Hey Jason ... well this posting has certainly caught my attention! I'm a huge fan of wringer washers! Maytags from the 1930s are my specialty, but this Westinghouse looks intriguing! I've restored two direct-drive wringer washers - a 1948 Kenmore, and a 1940s Canadian machine.. In both cases...

Maytag 32 motor opening and lubrication?

First, a lesson in common courtesy. It would be appropriate to thank a member for their knowledge and advice before firing off yet another question. There are many members here that have spent years - and considerable expense - accumulating experience and knowledge. We are only too happy to...

Maytag 32 motor opening and lubrication?

Hello again... After removing the 4 long bolts, tap gently with a hammer and flat-head screwdriver on the part that bulges out a little on the bell housing, right beside the bolt holes. Regarding lubricating the motor - I always recommend "3-in-1" oil with the blue label, specifically...

My latest restoration project - - - Maytag Model 90 Wringer Washer

Rejuvenating wringer rolls... First off, Carolyn - welcome to the website! Hopefully you will find this club as useful and fun as I have! If the cracks are only surface ones with some rough spots, you could probably lightly sand the rolls by hand. I stand a roll on its end and maintain the...

Just brought a Maytag 32 home yesterday

Items wrapping themselves around the upper roll... That definitely is something one has to be constantly aware of when using a wringer. I always place my free hand at the back side of the rolls to guide small or thin items out so they don't start wrapping around. No danger of getting fingers...

Beatty BW3921A washer I picked up today

Beatty washers offered two different agitators... The one pictured must have been quite rough on clothes, the principle being that it dragged the clothes through the water, as compared with the other more traditional agitator that pushed water through the clothes. Both types are featured in...
