A picture of an actual model like above This one was taken out of a beauty shop in Blackpool,England in the late 1960s when the changeover was made from manufactured gas to natural gas. It dates from about 1930.

    Gas Hair Dryers

New hand-held model Here's a patent for one that I believe has just been marketed. It uses those butane cartridges similar to lighters, the fan powered by two 1.5 VOLT "C" or "D" cells and is probably related to the gas hair styler by Braun.(Wonder if they got this patent?)

    Gas Hair Dryers

From the UK,here's one without the fan. Kinda like a gas appliance without a connected flue. Note the damper lever in the exhaust tube.

    Gas Hair Dryers

This one is in a private collection somewhere in Europe. It's also the most modern(and scariest). Look how close the burner is to the hair!Inches away! Note the pilot light supply tubing. Loks like someone crossed a gas clothes dryer with a commercial hair dryer.

    Gas Hair Dryers

This one dates fron the teens and reminds me of our propane and kerosene portable heaters used in garages, warehouses and construction sites. Note the novel comment,"hair dryers are objected to by a great many customers" I wonder why...

    Gas Hair Dryers

Still another(and last view) of the Halliwell Shelton. I wonder how easy it was for the flame to be sucked up by the blower into the "helmet" and burn the hair?

    Whirltag Or Maypool?

What Whirlpool did to Maytag... ...Just like when Studebaker bought Packard? For the last two years of its life, rebadged Studebakers were sold as Packards after Studebaker shut down the Packard plant.

Washer in one location, dryer in another

I just wanted to add that I have a friend whose parent's post-WWII house had the washer in the kitchen, but the Kenmore gas dryer was in a closet at the rear of the house. Which means that they had to carry the laundry from the front all the way to the back. It was a large walk-in closet with a...

Washer in one location, dryer in another

How many of your houses have (or have had)the washer connection in one place and the dryer in another? Did you relocate the machine(es)? Some older houses here are like that because local codes only required a washing machine connection or laundry tray. The dryer (usually gas)was added on later...

    GAS LIGHTING

Many people here in New Orleans have outdoor gas lights. There is a reversion from incandescent mantles to the now popular gas-wasting open flame burner.Seems that there is a concern about the radioactivity of the minerals that the mantles are impregnated with and the nostalgia for open flame...
