    The perils of "Dexcool"?....

Green I only use the green ethylene glycol, Flush out everything, good idea to flush out the systems every 3 or 4 years. BMW is blue, but its ethylene glycol, I use that in my BMWs, green in the other 11 cars, but most are from the 50s thru 70s, no aluminum components, good old cast iron block...

1957 (?) Hotpoint Customline Wall Oven Hinge problem

repair You'll have to get it apart and see what the issue is, some metal fabrication can make a new part. I'm making new brackets for an oven door this week, will use some steel and mig welder, some grinding to contour etc. new steel rod for hinge pins.

    Old cars vs New cars

series 75 one of those came up for sale here this summer, was a bit steep on the price so I didn't buy it, but sure wish I had one, I think it was a '64

    yard power rollers

Those chain drives What are they transmitting? Radio signals? Sounds really neat to see, have any photos? It's amazing how much older equipment is still in use today, was really built to last, I know ComEd substations around here are still using transformers from the 1940s and my friends who...

auto climate control Indeed! My cadillacs vary over the decades and I know what you mean! The '64 is a Comfort Control, the '71 has a "vent" setting, the '76 replaced "vent" with "economy". I have some work to do on the '71, not getting full heat mode, have to check some thermistors or...

    Old cars vs New cars

nice pontiac That is pretty interesting, here in IL its very hot and humid as well, but even my '67 Chrysler does not have AC, but the generation buying those cars back then were from the depression era, and they did not spend more money than they had to, they just preferred to sweat lol. One...

    antique door hardware and locksets

Anyone else restore or rebuild antique door hardware? I find the solid brass mortise sets last for hundreds of years. photo of my project today, after removing about 7 layers of paint and some sanding and polishing, just need to have a new key made for it now and reinstall it. I clear coated...

    Old cars vs New cars

Compressors.. I'm pretty sure GM had a patent on the design, the '54 compressor is much larger in diameter than the replacement A5 compressor that came out in '55. I also found there are no parts or rebuilding available for the pre A5, mine works though. The filter/dryer is an inline type that...

    Old cars vs New cars

Space age acrylic tubes... You know quite a bit about the system already! Yes the system is duel side controls, fan speed is variable, one knob controls the drivers side blower, and the other passenger side blower, evaporator section is in the trunk right behind the rear seat back, its...

    Old cars vs New cars

Very true... Harley Earl ran the styling at GM from the 30s until 1958, the man was genius with styling, the 50s were an amazing time for it, my favourite era indeed. All those cars in the 50s were the "bubble top", could wear your hat and sit at a nice height, then in '58 the order was given...

    Old cars vs New cars

That '61 wagon is big! The cars really got so big that the 235 was not enough power, however it is more than enough power for my '55, small car. Correct, all powerglide equipped cars had hydraulic lifters, manual trans cars where solid lifters. The straight 6 was an amazing engine, they ran and...

    Old cars vs New cars

New cars for me are 1980s. I have 13 cars, ranging from 1949 to 2008. For me its more about what type of event I am driving to, and what would most better suit the event. I call my 1976 Cadillac Eldorado my "new" car because it only had 1,500 original miles when I bought it last year, now its...

What did the AFCO(American Furnace Company) Comfortmaker furnaces look like?

Some Lennox photos here's my 1965 Lennox central cooling unit and my 1950s Lennox lowboy furnace, someone long before I was around painted it, don't mind that LOL, nothing pretty but its been working along and been through many basement floods. (house is next to a creek) photo of mom's new...
