    58 Zenith Update

CRT Rebuilds are pretty pricey...in this case a replacement would probably be better if needed. Are you sure you have good high voltage, video, brightness control circuit, all capacitors replaced etc....low HV can simulate a bad CRT. Also if everything checks out OK you can sometimes rejuvinate...

    Console Stereo article

VM made many of the record changers used in these consoles including most of the Zeniths and Motorolas. Magnavoxes were usually made by Collaro in England. We have many customers at our shop that are still using their console stereos.

    Whatever happened to coffee pods?

The Senseo pods provide better coffee than the Folgers. There is a Philips machine that works well and produces a very good cup of coffee. The Black and Decker works O.K. but seems to develop intermittent problems after a while, like you have to push the button several times to get it to work...

Dawn dish soap as laundry detergent

Don't use it in dishwasher When I was a kid we rented a cottage at the beach that had a dishwasher: not having one at home I figured regular dish liquid would work in it... there ended up being about a foot of suds all over the kitchen floor! Probably the same results would ensue with a clothes...

    Cancel Television

Direct TV with DVR I have Direct TV with the Tivo recorder. The digital recorder is really the only way I can enjoy TV as I can program it very easily to record everything I want, no remembering to put in videotapes, etc. Without the recorder I would not get my money's worth as there is often...

Starting over with a new Hewlett Packard

Linux Linux can make a really messed up old PC look up again. I have gotten some where there was windows 98 on them and they would not boot up at all. Installed Slackware linux and they are working great. Almost everything you can do on Windows, you can do on Linux.

    Pristine Wedgwood Holly Range

The heater function may have been included to replace a coal/wood range which would have been able to heat the kitchen (or part of the house in a small house.)

    Brokeback Mountain

It opened Fri. 1/20 in Midland and Odessa, TX and it is still playing here, wonder why it would not be in San Antonio. Unfortunately it hasn't made it to the Drive-in yet.

    Other Westy stuff (elevators)

If you go to the Majestic Hotel in Hot Springs Ark. there is a very old Westinghouse elevator still working in it. There is an interesting 50's Otis elevator at an old building here in Midland TX which has touch-sensitive buttons, which operate like touch lamps or the touch tune buttons on some...

1, 2, and 3 are single phase. 4 is three phase.

    1-Phase, 2--Phase, 3-Phase...

You can tell if you have 3 phase power if you have overhead power lines and trace the cable from the house back to the pole...there will be three transformers on the pole and of course on your breaker panel the Main will be a 3-pole breaker. I have 3 phase power coming into my barn but I haven't...

    General Motors in the red.

The only GM product I own (or have owned) is part of my school bus collection, a 1974 GMC School Bus w/366 V8 and 4 barrel carb. Still runs very well. Every day I notice a lot of 70's and early 80's Caprice Classics, Chev and GMC Pickups, Olds Delta 88's and such still on the roads. It seems...
