    Maytag A608 rebuild

Still trying to find a transmission. After I cleaned up everything both sets of bearings for both shafts are pretty well used up. I'll post up some pics soon....

    Maytag A608 rebuild

I'm not real worried about the mess as I'm doing a complete rebuild but you are correct. I really wasn't expecting that much fluid in there either, talk about being over filled.

    Maytag A608 rebuild

Well the problem is that drive shaft is totally shot plus when I pulled the cover off I heard pieces falling into that goo. I'll finish taking it apart tomorrow but I don't really think it is worth going any further especially with the amount of water that's been in there, I'm afraid of what the...

And here I thought that this was going to be a easy job, quick and simple, tear it apart, clean and inspect then back together..... HAHAHA...... HAHA...... HA

    Maytag A608 rebuild

So... Anyone know where I can find a good used transmission? I told you all, Murphy lives at my house, you all have nothing to worry about.

    Maytag A608 rebuild

Got the bearing off, same way as everything else... Had to cut it off. Looks like I'll be looking for for a transmission or at least a top half with the way this shaft looks, cleaned it a bit and it only looks worse.

    Maytag A608 rebuild

A good look at the shaft..... Ugly. The bearing is also seized to the housing. I gotta get this apart and cleaned up... We'll see if it's salvageable.

    Maytag A608 rebuild

Got the tub nut and associated hardware off, the set screw wasn't seized how about that. I did have cut and break the tub nut off though, wasn't so bad although everything seems to have a lot of corrosion...... No wonder the machine was growling at me.......

    Maytag A608 rebuild

Not so pretty now..... Had to cut the drum nut off, not a big deal as I have everything I need for tools to do a job like this. Tank has a bit of corrosion especially where the top seal is but I'll get it cleaned up at least enough for another 20 years.

    Maytag A608 rebuild

I had that 2x4 laying flat at first and I started cranking the jack up and I thought I was going to break the board. Flipped it on end and I thought for sure with all the pressure I was putting on that agitator it was going to pull it apart but I guess at least one thing went my way so far...

    Maytag A608 rebuild

Oh yeah, came off in one piece, it was just really stuck, a bunch of corrosion on the shaft. It looks like it will clean up nicely though. I'll get some more pics later...... Watching the Bruins now.

    Maytag A608 rebuild

So I started this project today now that I have my other A606 in place of my A608 so I can take my time rebuilding this one. Got all the parts I need to go through it thoroughly including flushing the transmission. My first problem is....... Getting this stubborn agitator off, so far no luck...

    Maytag DG606

First thing I would do is remove the belts and then try to run it, see if the drum spins freely. on one that I got the drum bearings were very dry and it wouldn't spin, if that's the case the dryer has to come apart to access that, it actually has a wick in there. Try with the belt off first.

    Maytag Transmission

Thanks John, I'll be tearing into this next week. I don't think there's much wrong with the trans other than needing a good oil change. The o-ring I probably already have, if not I can source locally.

    Maytag Transmission

Haven't torn it apart yet but I was under the impression that it was a maintenance part if you are tearing into the transmission for a overhaul. If I don't have to replace that even better.

    Maytag Transmission

I'm just about ready to give my A608 an overhaul, I have most of my parts that I'm going to need all except for one. I'm trying to find the 211484 Lug washer for the transmission. If anyone has a spare kicking around I'd be more than happy to purchase it. Dan
