Using your dishwasher as a waterproof safe

FL washer boots are supposed to be water tight from the inside-out, not the other way around. Because of the lip seal, water pressure from the inside will push the seal tighter to the door. Pressure on the outside will just cause the seal to move out of the way.

Looks like your lint filter is intact. With that much garbage in the filter bucket area, that's impressive. I did see that your A element is beginning to sag. Probably want to pick up an element kit while the parts still exist, unless you already have one.

Decisions! GE or Whirlpool set? Which is preferred and why?

For eurekastar That Whirlpool washer is a belt drive.

Decisions! GE or Whirlpool set? Which is preferred and why?

Both of those GE washers are filter-flo, so yes they will recirculate water. If it's between those two, I'd get the almond set with the chrome trim. They are the older set (80's) and likely will avoid the outer tub rust problems that the white set is smack in the middle of (about 1993 for that...

You're close. Remove the transmission and set it upside down in the inverted basket to work on it.

    60's Fridge Cut-Out Temps?

I have a couple Gemline catalogs left over from the old days. You were correct in the previous post that they call for the GC116 as a replacement. The catalog also gives specs for the GC116 as "Normal cut-in: 37.5 and Normal cut-out:-10.5" The catalog also lists GC308 and GC402 as viable...

We sold hundreds of the lesser versions of these machines. GWL15/WAT26G washers and DEGX1/DEGX2 TL h-axis dryers. We got totally out of F&P after they discontinued the TL h-axis dryer. Without that they were harder to market and we had lots of upset customers with the pump failures on the...

70s Kenmore Dryer, Mysterious Brass Ground Strap?

I know I've seen several Whirlpool built machines where there was a strap on the back that went between the top panel and the cabinet. This was the way to ensure the top and all components were grounded.

Need a part for RCA Whirlpool washer 1962

I don't know if you already saw this but about 2/3 of the way down the page there is someone who supposedly has the part. http://www.mypartshelf.com/search_all.php?submit=true&sortby=part_name&searchterm=whirlpool&page=5&category=Appliances_and_HVAC

Warranrty Question on New purchase on Speed Queen Front Loader

I included a picture of the warranty bond form from the AFNE9B that we have on our sales floor. Our model is a 2017, but I believe it is the same bond from previous year models. According to this, you have a full 5 year warranty and lifetime parts on both the tub and basket. If you can get...

    Today's resto project, early 60s (?) Coldspot

As long as we are talking about a properly charged system, refrigerants used in our industry exist at a state containing liquid and gas inside the sealed system at all times. Whether it's inside a new tank, recovery tank, or refrigerating system, there is both liquid and gas present at all...

    Best new TL stackers?

Our failure rate on the GE unitized in the last 6-8 years has been abysmal. I'd avoid them.

    Is white out of date?

It's a moving target Right now, people that come in the door shopping for their own houses are buying the newer alternative colors such as black stainless and slate. Interestingly, the only homes we are installing stainless steel in right now, are the ones getting ready to be sold. Realtors...

    Refurbished GE Filter Flo

I don't know what the used market is like in your area, but that is a bunch of money for that machine. The good side of that particular ff is that this machine is from before the outer tub rust problems found in the 90's.

    A207 still kicking

Just sharing a machine I did a service call on this morning. This classic is still kicking along in a pretty unpleasant old basement. Complaint was poor spin and agitate. Turns out this workhorse still had its original belts. I also noticed that one of the fill hoses was original. After a new...

    Who built this Admiral dryer?

The dead giveaway is that lint filter that doesn't go all the way down in your picture. Its full of lint down there. We sold tons of these under the Crosley label in the 90's.

Opinion on Craigslist Whirlpools wtw4800xq2 and WED5840SW0

These machines are the same as what you would get if you bought a Whirlpool (or Amana, Roper, Crosley, etc.) pair new from a dealer today. This is the VMW platform washer that is not nearly the machine that the earlier DD platform was. Not a bad machine in general but nothing to call home...
