Kenmore 90 Series Washer Repair Disaster

Snap ring My guess is the snap ring your son had to modify to fit failed again because it had been modified, or the groove on the shaft is damaged and allowing the snap ring to pop off.

    Bosch 800 junction box failure

Unless I read his post wrong He indicated he already had constant power (wired to the DW now) so he just needs to run that feed over to the outlet.

    Bosch 800 junction box failure

Split outlet On the sides of the receptacle there’s metal tabs that bridge the upper and lower screw post together. Knocking out the tabs will electrically separate the top and bottom outlet and allow you to wire the switch to one, and a constant power to the other.

A Kenmore 80 DD washer that I want to fix up

DD Neutral Drain Issues Every single DD washer I’ve owned developed neutral drain issues. Super annoying, and absolutely not normal operation as every single one worked perfectly on every cycle when new. I’d say it was really the only thing they’re notorious from my (and others I’ve talked...

SQ and CR 2021 Buying Guide

My 2018 TR5 get my mechanic clothes, my wife’s hairdressing clothes and my daughters farm clothes clean. Didn’t get as good results on the CR test as our previous washer (Kenmore FL) but does just as good when properly loaded in our ‘real life’ tests. CR uses ‘normal’ mode for everything. If I...

    Early Whirlpool Automatic.

Amazing story That’s a great story of how you acquired the set. Please, please post videos once the washer is working! I can’t wait to see it in action!

Kenmore Triple Action agitator washer stuck on "Sensing" .

Lid lock The problem with both the GE and Maytag is they both have lid locks, so if that’s what you’re trying to bypass (and it subsequently failed) my concern is you’ll be back on the same boat. In fact the Maytag is basically the same washer you have now (whirlpool VMW platform). The speed...

speed queen TR5 noisy in spin only if lightly loaded

Thanks for the update. Sorry its turned into such an intermittent thing. I agree it doesn't sound like bearings to me either, never heard a bad bearing suddenly sound fine. The 'buzzy' nature of it almost sounds like something inverter-related and just echoing through the tub. I also agree if I...

speed queen TR5 noisy in spin only if lightly loaded

Service manual Unfortunately the service manual I bought doesn’t come with actual repair instructions. Go figure. It has diag flow charts, parts lists, trouble codes and different test modes. I’d expect John L (Combo 52) to have the full boogie ‘inside info’ on this repair. It takes a few days...

speed queen TR5 noisy in spin only if lightly loaded

I’m a mechanic, my wife is a hairdresser and my daughter occasionally helps on a farm. We also have 5 cats and a dog, so lots of pet hair on top of all that. Never an issue not getting clothes clean. So many people on this forum discount the TR cause it washes differently, though none of them...

speed queen TR5 noisy in spin only if lightly loaded

Torque It’s amazing how ...err....I’ll hold off on using the term I want....some techs can be. Why doesn’t anyone carry a torque wrench!? The torque MUST be between 700 and 1000 in.lbs. He likely overtorqued it with the impact, which will lead to other issues, like the nut or tub shaft threads...

What brand new Top Loader Washer do you recommend?

Speed Queen warranty Also, I’m not sure it’s been mentioned, the TR 5 has a 5 year parts/Labor warranty, same as the Maytag. Tr3 has a 3 year (same as the TC5, save for the transmission).

What brand new Top Loader Washer do you recommend?

Speed Queen warranty Any authorized Speed Queen repair place can repair any other dealers machine. Some will only service what they sell, regardless of brand, that’s up to the individual selling dealer, but there’s 3 different places near me that I can call to get service if I don’t like the...

speed queen TR5 noisy in spin only if lightly loaded

Video BTW this is what ours sounded like after the nut backed off.... With the nut torqued it’s dead silent.

speed queen TR5 noisy in spin only if lightly loaded

Tub drive pulley nut loose Sounds like the same thing that happened on our TR5. There’s a thread about it. The tub drive pulley nut need to be torqued to an updated spec. There’s a Bulletin for it through speed Queen. No parts required, just set to the proper torque spec. If they DO NOT torque...

What brand new Top Loader Washer do you recommend?

IMO The Maytag is a glorified $350 VMW under the covers basically. Splutch and transmission issues from multiple reports. The TR series of speed queens have 3 selectable water levels on any cycle, and actually clean quite well despite what people that don’t use them daily seem to believe. The TC...

What brand new Top Loader Washer do you recommend?

+1 Speed Queen Despite a small issue with our Speed Queen that John (combo52) helped us with, They are the only TL washer worth a damn these days. Old school suspension, rock solid construction. If you want the older transmission style wash action the TC5 can’t be beat. We have a TR5 and...

TR5 Tub Shaft Bolt torque spec

Nut retorque complete! Just to update,I retightened to 80ft lbs (960 InLbs) with loctite blue on it. Fingers crossed under torquing was why the nut backed off after 4 months. Did it through the bottom of the machine, 1 1/2” socket and torque wrench, and used a box wrench on the tub shaft flats...

TR5 Tub Shaft Bolt torque spec

THANK YOU JOHN!! John, Once again you are invaluable. I can’t thank you enough for providing me that torque info. And after rereading the post I said Nut and in the next line I said bolt....Im glad you were able to follow the confusion. I was mulling over loctite as well but wouldn’t do it if...

TR5 Tub Shaft Bolt torque spec

Our TR5 which was previously 'repaired' for a clunking from a loose tub pulley nut (P/N 29220). The tech tightened it but less than 4 months later its loose and knocking again. Turns out there's an updated torque spec on the nut from speed queen in a bulletin (the tech told us this when he was...
