    Best/Worst Ever Concensus

Best / Worst My votes are: Best: Westinghouse Laundromats, of the slanted-front variety. We had probably about the 1953 model when I was a kid, and then I think the 1964 model. Worst: White-Westinghouse tumble action machines. The last one my late mother had was the biggest piece of junk...

1947 Bendix Standard available fo purchase

1947 Bendix Hi from California: What are you asking for the Bendix? I remember the laundry on Hyde Street in San Francisco, still there in 1998 when I had to leave town, was still using the round "porthole" Bendix machines and still had the 1940's-style "LAUNDERETTE" wooden letters above the...

Re: Electric Dryer Vintage 1952 Kenmore Scoutnose

I agree with Groningen If we find an item of interest on Ebay, but also recognize the high bidder as being a club member, why not just leave it alone, especially, as Chris said, if we know somebody is looking for the match to an item already owned? If somebody happens to stumble upon the...

    Kenmore Dryer - Yah Baby

1957 Kenmore Dryer I have the matched pair of Lady Kenmores, in "sunshine yellow" but have never used the dryer as it needed some type of work and I never got around to it for one reason or another. I don't usually use a dryer anyway unless it's wintertime and lousy weather; a dryer in this...

1959 Kenmore "Frog Eye" Washer - Texas

When I said I wasn't referring to your comment, I was referring to someone else earlier having said, "If it were me, I'd have sniped." I agree with the robot analogy.

    bendix front loader

When did they stop making the round-top Bendixes? Or, were they making both at the same time and this one was, maybe, the larger or "more deluxe" model? There used to be a laundry in San Francisco on Hyde Street that had a whole row of the porthole-shaped round Bendixes and still had the wooden...

    L-8 help requested

Westinghouse boots Here's the contact info for a man who would probably be able to help you give your Westinghouse a "boot" -- I'm sorry, corny as hell, but I couldn't resist that one. I know this same man helped a friend of mine in the past. Good luck and Happy 2005 -- George -- Dave Harnish...

1959 Kenmore "Frog Eye" Washer - Texas

Bidding versus sniping Bidding is one thing; sniping is another and it was a little of a disappointment to me to learn they have software known as e-snipe for that very purpose. Sort of turns auctions into warfare and I think the enjoyment aspect of bidding goes out the window in that case.

    POD-57 WP Imperial

I wonder what the woman had against Maytags But, it looks like she ended up having to deal with them anyway; she ran but she couldn't hide forever. I had been able to snag the 1964 Whirlpool pair (I remember seeing those machines for sale brand new at a local discount department store back...

1959 Kenmore "Frog Eye" Washer - Texas

That would work, except... ...then Dennis the Menace's mother would cause to send everybody to their respective corners. Maybe it should be likened more to Linus and his blanket and Snoopy's attempts to snatch the blanket away; neither one really won and neither one really lost!

    Restored 1958 PhilcoBendix Duomatic

Congrats... great! Terrific find! I recall the 1955 Bendix Duomatic that was on display and also for sale in an appliance shop in the SF Bay Area about 15 years ago now. I was living in a second-floor apartment and had no place to store or use it or I would have loved to have purchased. Great...

Speed Queen info Thank you so much! I'd lost track of which larger fish has swallowed up the next smallest fish as far as purchases and sales of major corporations.

What company bought up Speed Queen?

Is Speed Queen now owned by Maytag? I ask because I have the replica of the 1953 Speed Queen wringer model that Speed Queen put out as an anniversary promotional in the late 1980's, but the pump has gone out. I wanted to ask what company bought up Speed Queen's name so I know where to look for...
