Anyone know about wiring UK wall switches in the US?

There's a light switch from the UK that I'd like to use in our US home. We would be using it as a light switch, its intended purpose, not to switch on anything that would draw more current than any lights would. If the UK's power is 230V 50Hz, is it possible and safe to wire it in to our 120V...

    Let's talk CONVECTION cooking

The convection feature comes in handy for several reasons. First, as has been mentioned above, foods that cook for a long time can go in without preheating the oven as the convection keeps the hot air circulating to warm up the refrigerated or frozen food. Second, the circulating hot air...

My washer left scorch marks on my clothes

Oil stains I've had good luck removing oily stains by saturating them with 90% isopropyl alcohol, blotting, then re-treating and washing in hot water. Alcohol that strong (regular isopropyl alcohol is only about 70%) has pretty effective solvent properties. YMMV.

    Miele Ranges and Rangetops

I kinda like them I currently have a 36" 6-burner all gas range that I'd like to replace someday, and was leaning towards Wolf. We had a Viking in the last house and were not impressed. My parents have two Wolf gas cookers and are very pleased with them. These new Mieles look pretty nice to me...

What dishwasher brand should I go with?

Miele Wouldn't trade my Miele for anything. It's quality throughout. The racks might look smaller than in North American machines, but they really can be packed full and still emerge sparkling. Maybe you could browse Craigslist for a cheap used Miele and try it out.

    KitchenAid dryer: bad control board?

Thanks guys for all the info! Once I realized it wasn't just a burned out drum light bulb and the whole machine was dead I suspected it had something to do with starting the dryer and that it was shorting out when it tried to restart itself during the extra care (wrinkle guard) phase after...

    KitchenAid dryer: bad control board?

Our KitchenAid electric dryer model KEHS02RWH1 (a WP Duet clone) has developed a problem. The control panel powers on and lights up, but as soon as the start button is pressed the entire dryer goes dead. It is not tripping the breaker in the fuse panel so I’m wondering if perhaps the control...

OxiClean and Their Products - Do They Work??

You might also check out chemistrystore.com. They sell pure sodium percarbonate powder in 2 pound containers for $5.50, a pretty good deal for the pure stuff. With some advance planning you might be able to have it ordered and delivered to a location by the time your cousin is stateside to...

OxiClean and Their Products - Do They Work??

Regular OxiClean powder contains a fair amount of filler. Ecover's oxygen bleach powder has no fillers and comes in small boxes, which might make it preferable for travelling from USA to AU. Tide recently debuted an oxygen bleach powder as well, although I'm not sure how much bleach vs. filler...

Is this a belt drive Inglis?

Deffo belt drive. And how cool that it has the softener dispenser. I wish my Lady K convertible had one! Go get it!

    Unusual Kenmore washer

Years ago (early '80s) a neighbor of ours had that same machine and matching dryer. If my memory is correct the timer dial is a push-start/pull-stop affair.

HE, Eco, Low water and Energy, lets hear your positive experiences!

Did you buy the machine thru choice? We purchased our KitchenAid front loader, a Whirlpool Duet clone, in 2006. It replaced a 2 year-old KitchenAid top loader. Prior to the top loader I'd had two different front loaders. Two years with the top loader was enough punishment and I happily went back...

New Whirlpool FL Washers Use MORE Water

Hey Mark, thanks for the link. I reread the old thread and tried all the suggested sequences, plus a bunch of variations of them, but came up empty. Since most of the parts in the KitchenAid are the same as those in your Duet, and they were probably both built in the same factory in Germany...

New Whirlpool FL Washers Use MORE Water

hidden clean washer cycle I've got the KitchenAid version of the Duet and have tried every combination of buttons I can think of but can't get any clean washer cycle to activate. It was made in Germany in 2006.

    No CHEER in Chicago.

Target! Try Target. Was in a larger suburban store today and they had powder in large 120 load boxes, and regular liquid in two sizes and in both regular and HE versions. Didn't notice any free and clear, though, which struck me odd. I used the free and clear liquid many years ago and remember...

Anybody hear of a Porter and Charles Washer/Dryer?

Not sure of the parent brand, but their dishwasher looks very much like the Summit model in the link. http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/DW2432SS.html?mv_pc=gg&utm_source=google&utm_medium=adwords&utm_campaign=pla&utm_term=&gclid=CILVp7mxib0CFclDMgodqy4A_w

    Albertsons owner to buy Safeway

Safeway is Von's Safeway also owns Pavilions, if that hasn't already been mentioned. My very first job was at Safeway. I worked in the bottle room counting containers and issuing deposit slips, back before the automatic machines existed. It was horrible. We have two Safeways, a Whole Foods, a...
