    Calypso set

John gave me a Kenmore version many years ago and it is a great washer and cleans very well. I have seen John dump a full load of his work clothes in his machine and it cleaned those very dirty clothes very well. I recall my surprise as I had never given a Calipso the time of day before I saw...

    Warm Rinses

When laundering white cotton fabrics or kitchen cloths and towels, I always use a hot wash and rinse.

    Speed Queen Becoming More Mainstream?

Word is spreading--------- and the public is on to it. Much new stuff is junk right out of the box especially the "Singsong" (oh, shut-up----you know who I am talking about!) laundry stuff. The public does not understand why their "old" machines lasted for decades and the "new" machines barely...

    Speed Queen Becoming More Mainstream?

I wish I could share the optimism------ However, I do not believe the quality of the electronics is going to improve with volume sales. I believe a move to mass production will signal the end for the quality of Speed Queen. It's always about the $$$$$$$$. Our local Lowe's no longer takes back...

    Hotpoint Rimflow newbie question

These things were tanks. They gave many years of good service and have very aggressive agitation. It will clean those Carhartts. A zillion of these machines went into new condominium and apartment complex's along with their matching bretheren, not to mention the ones for home installation.

Mystery Washer-Antique dish waher $100 Listed 2 weeks ago in Johnson City, TN

Like many brands of this era, lack of filtration was a problem.

    Is that a condenser model?

What is this vintage dishwasher with propeller in bottom

A lot of the old impeller type dishwashers had the plates in a circle to face the spray head-on. I had an American Kitchens machine years ago with a rotating upper rack as well. It was amazing how fast that rack would spin from the force of the impeller, even full of glasses and mugs! Look's...

Turquoise GE Washer/Dryer Combo in Cleveland

Right next to the filthy toilet and in a filthy room. The floor tells the story. Hate to think what's growing on the side of it. Must not really want to sell it or they would have cleaned it up a bit, at least. If the pump has leaky seals the manual say's "replace the pump. It CANNOT be repaired".

Low Speed as Relevant to Filter Flo Washers

Is the Maytag 1970-1980 center dial agitator really that rou Well, reach down into the bottom of the tub and feel for yourself. The earlier Gyratator without flexible fins is very aggressive, too. If I put three or four pair of denim jeans in either my '64 Highlander or 806 there is a LOT of...

Low Speed as Relevant to Filter Flo Washers

Original One-Speed Designs---------- We're developed when the majority of Americans had blue-collar jobs, and in some cases, got clothes filthy dirty with regularity. Kids played outside in the dirt. Housewives often tended their own gardens. Men did their own maintenance on their cars, houses...

    A806! - All Done! Woohoo!

Congratulations! I have a harvest gold 806 and it can do anything short of dry cleaning. I have said for years that if you have an 806 you can wash anything. I'm sure you will get many years of clean laundry out of it.

Maytag A105 - NEW IN BOX!

I can't imagine this will be around for long. Perfect for a couple starting a family, if, they realize the quality level and performance of this most basic machine. I found my 1964 A300 new in the box and she is still a great daily driver.

The Dilemma: Which dishwasher to keep?

Ditch the pos dish-drawer. The one I (occasionally) use is totally lame and only good for washing coffee mugs and glasses. A waste of space. I would definitely keep the KAid and try to find a minty KDS-18 to keep it company. I am all about getting the job done quickly and thoroughly. I have no...

    Low rider agitator

I have seen these in use before and they are in the top-three "tanglers" of all time. Anyone ever taken the "Detergent Column" off of their Unimatic or Multimatic to see what would happen? Same thing. I actually saw a few of these things in an open-air laundry patio of conventional Maytags in...

GE washer/dryer set model age quality requested

I agree. Very good machines and are really good at filtering pet fur. I do not like the 1965 vintage straight vane agitator. Later ones were much better. The spiral agitator will always be my favorite GE.

    westinghouse washer dryer set

I have used all those types of machines many times over the years. Those old TL's were very good washers and very aggressive. Like many others of the era they tended to sudz-lock. I think the wizards in engineering located the pump right on top of the motor to "be sure" the machines were not too...

    Frigidaire washer and Roper range

Dan------- I am constantly surprised how many WO's and WO-65-2's show up! They seem to be great survivors and over the years I have found a half-dozen------NONE with bad Torque-Springs! I think the users could not figure out how to load them and got so sick of the tangling they shoved them...

    Frigidaire washer and Roper range

Test it out first! If it wants to spin while pulsating in the wash or rinse cycle you are going to need a (hard to find) Torque-Spring or you will be dead in the water. Also make sure she is "sea-worthy" because split bellows can lead to a lot of trouble in the mechanism. Whomever has these...
