Why does everyone think WCI/ Franklin is so great?

They're great because they are so awful they make everything else seem so much better?

Why does everyone think Maytag is so great?

I've never had experience with a Maytag, but it's on my "hope" list, based on what I've heard others say about the machines. If what I hear is even only partly true, the Maytag could end up my #1 daily washer choice. From a look, I find that the Center Dial Maytags are classy. There is...

    Stench of fabric softeners

Like others here, I detest strongly scented laundry products. I tried Tide X2 liquid sample a few months back, and I will never forget that incredible--and incredibly long-lasting--stench. I often opt for "green" products (Seventh Generation, etc.) A major reason is simply that they are...

Right ! Let's Have This Out Right Now! Cornbread

"thank GOD for Goodwill and the Salvation Army, the biggest source of my kitchen items these days" I know the feeling. Thrift stores are about the only retail place left where I can find much that actually does come from a first world nation.

    how do you make coffee?

Electric kettles in the US They do seem like rare novelties. Until you've had one for a while. I got mine several years ago, and it's become one of the most important gadgets in my kitchen. Right now, I don't have a microwave. I'm keeping an eye out for a microwave, but if I had could have...

    how do you make coffee?

Most of the time, I use a one cup drip maker that parks on top of the cup. My ex-roommate thought it crazy--more practical to make more than one cup at once. But it makes better coffee than the standard electric drip pots I've encountered. (A top flight maker, though, might be a different...

    Fed Up With Firefox

"I guess like washers and dryers one can never have too many browsers to choose from." That's been my opinion. I've often had several browsers installed and used for different purposes.

    Fed Up With Firefox

I also like Opera...overall, it's the best I've used. It's certainly the fastest...it appears to be often faster than some more stripped down speed minded Linux browswers. I've heard complaints about Firefox 3-something (the exact something is unknown) from a Mac user, who's switched to Safari.

    Best new dryer?

I think I've noticed the uneven drying of some loads in Whirlpool. The current dryer I'm using is an old GE with a front filter, although I haven't used it enough to form much of an opinion. (I air dry most of the time.) Another factor that I'm sure many on this site are aware of: it can be...

    Best new dryer?

Thanks to all who responded! I passed the info along.

    Best new dryer?

"when my family goes looking for appliances and asks me my opinion, I simply state: look for this and avoid that for this reason. In many instances they bought the same one (brand) I already had or had selected." How true...and it's what I prefer doing. Problem is, most people seem to want a...

Does anyone have a laundry chute?

I've never had one, but I've used these in the past...my grandmother had one, and she insisted that bath towels would be used ONE TIME and ONE TIME ONLY. I can remember visiting her, and dutifully stuffing towels into the chute. As I think of it, I'd like to have one of my own, and...

Vintage China in dishwasher, yes or no?

China can be amazingly tough. My former roommate had a lot of odds and ends of good china bought in thrift stores. That stuff was always being run through the dishwasher. In fact, stuff got sent through that I'd never have expected to survive. But very little got ruined. However, for something...

    Look what I found today

I used this Purex a year or so ago. Assuming its the same as what you bought, I found it acceptable. I don't think I ever tried it on anything tough, but for my normal laundry, it worked well. Unlike another natural liquid. (I think that other one might be from Arm&Hammer.) I'd probably be...

    Best new dryer?

Someone I know is in the market for a new dryer. Who is currently making the best new dryers? I think the dryer will be electric, and I think the attitude would be the usual "the cheaper the better." Thanks!

Just noticed the date on replies!

Thank goodness for that extra day! There were some things I needed to get done by the end of August, and I've been given extra time. I remember hearing of this before here...I think its some small quirk in the coding. Not a big deal...at least to me. (I still have bitter memories of one MS word...

    Google Chrome

I liked some things I saw the time or two I played with Chrome. Speed was decent, for one thing. But I also worry about privacy and Google. I cast another vote for Opera. It's fast even on old hardware, it has lots of smart features. (My favorite: mouse gestures. For example: hold the right...

GM seeks to cancel contract with WCI

And, no, I don't think GM will give a Whirlpool to replace old Frigidaires. It's more likely to be a brand new WCI Frigidaire, loaded with all the latest engineering and quality that Frigidaire name has been known for since WCI took over.

GM seeks to cancel contract with WCI

Reading the article, it does sound like a liability of older appliance issue. Although, I am amused by this comment: "The likelihood of anything being around after the fact, 30 years later, is pretty low," Meyer said. I assume the "anything being around" means Frigidaire appliances. And while I...

    My New Computer From Craigslist

In a way, it's worth having at least one backup machine. I had hard drive failure develope on my primary Internet computer about a year ago. I swapped in an old--and slow!--backup for a day or so, just to keep me going, until I had the chance to actually swap disks, install the OS, etc.
